Boarding to capture is annoying as hell, especially for something with high crew like a station. That would also give the Borg a distinct advantage when, by all rights, the Borg shouldn't even be using mercs to begin with.
There's also the slight problem that many maps don't have accessible central points. This could be remedied by redesigning maps around this concept, but I'd take map variety over mercenaries any day of the week.

No, the devs must edit the stations to lesser crew and put the station in any place, not the center of map necessarily.
The ships i want to see is:
*Ships from Gorns
*Ships from Hirogens
*Ships from Cardassians
*Ships from Orion Pirates
*Ships from Nausicaans
It will be very nice. You see the ships as a map object from a NPC race and as a playable ship, so you can play the NPC ships, ohhh i love it so much.

The Borg still have a huge advantage thanks to auto-assim and boarding, so that does nothing to ease the fundamental problem.
The Devs have already mentioned the Cardassians, Tholians, and Hydrans as NPC races. The other races probably won't appear, if only because the Devs have so many more important things to work on.
Also, the Hirogen are from the Delta Quadrant and their ships are ugly as sin.

the hirogen i could actually believe being map objects in fleetops, they were a race specifically said to roam around with no fixed territory, and they've been doing that for some time, so some could easily have reached near the edge of voyager era federation space, and fleetops is set decades later.
i also liked the look of the hirogen ships too.

I disagree the idea to put a race ship as NPC or map object and you can't board and can't play the race ship.
Like the Ferengi ship when it is attacked, boarded but the Ferengi ship is still unplayable.
It's turn the game very limited.
In Custom Game or Skirmish, everything is playable, but in Campaign is other subject.
Because it, i defend the idea to make a mercenary station selling all the NPC ships. It's similar to Warcraft III you can edit the mercenary camp to sell all map objects you wish.
To turn more easy to devs and cost less time and effort, they can turn all NPC ships boardable. The boardable ships can be a bonus to player who boarded the ship. Except the Species 8472 ships are not boardable. The player must edit in the map editor and put the ship in the team's player.
I have other idea, if the map ships aren't boardable, the player can edit in the map editor and turn the map ship to player's team and play this ships.

I'm pretty sure the unboardable nature comes from its player assignment (would that be 9? I'm not sure.), but the Ferengi are probably buried somewhere in the code. I'm sure they could be changed with a bit of effort, but most players just disable them anyway.
The trouble with the Fleet Ops = Warcraft 3 comparison is that Fleet Ops has many more units and many more variations between those units, making it more difficult to balance. What that means is that mercenary ships can't be thrown in en masse; instead, a few ships (likely from the NPC races) would be added after extensive playtesting.

Hmmm, this is very interesting

So i backup the original files and change the others files to turn all the ships playable.
And i understood about balance the ships. Fleet Ops is more complex, need more work to balance the ships. I agree with idea to put few ships instead of a lot of ships, the work is more organized and more perfect.

you misunderstand. with map editor you can put on the map any ship in the game (that the devs have put in map editor).
if you set it to team 0 then it can't be boarded, if you set it to a team with no players on it, like team 8 for a 2 player map, then the ship will be boardable.
hence whether a ship is boardable or not is up to the person making the map. what i meant by "map object" is that the ship is in map editor, but not buildable in a normal game.

Ahhh ok, i understood. So the Ferengi ship or any map ship can be playable. We must to change the team only.

But a Cardassian ship does less damage than ships from other races and has less armor too. But their ships are fast because the lack of armor.
If put the Hirogen, will be very very good too, because their Pulse Cannons which does great damage againt most of ships.

. Man, Fleet operations Engine is perfect, it's a greatest work ever done, a serious mod without errors, we need to implement more resources only, not change the game anymore.
In my opinion, include new Races will be irrelevant, but create a pack with map objects will be extremely great and won't cost much work and time because isn't an entire race, only one to three units of this race!!!!
