It has a torpedo launcher. The Dominion Mixed tech ship gains an additional torpedo launcher.
Combined with its Officer ability its fairly impressive.
Make 3-4 Akira's veterans and watch any battle group start to struggle at the amount of AOE shield ignoring torpedo hits.
Obviously with the dominion mixed tech version this is even more impressive.... Especially when they activate defensive patterns!

And can you Imagine what it would look like in FO style?

Have you guys given any thought to adding the new Excalibur class star ship, announced in the upcoming Star Trek online game. I think it would be perfect for this mod. Its essentially the Constitution MK II well assuming you don't count the TMP version as a Mk II. I see it as a fast attack frigate that packs a punch, something you could use to scout in force or use to deal with a enemy raid on mining, but maybe not a front line war ship like the Excelsior Mk II, but a pair in junction with a Excelsior would be a formidable fight force.

Personally, I prefer the fan design over the Constitution Rip-off. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

As far as I know, the new Federation ship will be a substitute for the Akira, which is getting bumped up in the tech tree (to become a torpedo totting warship). Also, the ship is well known (if I remember correctly).

What ever the ship is I'm fine with it as long as it has good light maps and good glows.

Ah, finally the akira gets the love she needs.
I don't think a constitution refit would make a good fo ship. Maybe as warpin, but not as a builsable ship. What they need is to redo the steamrunner. It was never a slow artilary bucket in the show. It should be a friate/gunboat and should be smaller than an akira.

I agree, i love the constitution class but it would be like a ship of the line supporting a aircraft carrier task force.
However this new Excalibur class star ship, is brand new, 2391 commission date according to the Star trek online people. It just happens to be inspired by the old constitution class. The description appears to indicate it is meant to be more a explorer and not the heavy cruiser class, I invision it as a fast attack ship, a kin to the Miranda or Akira, which is perfect since this is about replacing to slot previously held by that ship.
This one also has the benefit of being cannon, i know the mod is a future mod and has done some great work with fan made ships but it seems to me that the Star Trek online game might be a good source of ideas since it covers the same time period, relatively.

Warp factor 7?!?!? Dang that is a slow ship. Anyway, it would be awesome if the Avalon class went back to experimental warpin, and the excalibur was the new carrier.
In one of my own old mods that is what I used the excalibur for.

Warp factor 7 is its cruising speed its max is 9.6. 7 is pretty fast for cruising speed, Picard had the old D going at about 5 when he was not in a hurry. The description indicates it has a higher end cruising speed due to a more stable crystal matrix.
I could see this ship being a carrier as well though, it did mention it could transport over a 1,000 passengers so point well taken. I guess I was thinking more about what I might do with a Constitution refit for this age. Since the mod has the Excelsior Mk II as the "battle cruiser" I was thinking the constitution (Excalibur) could be a hard charging frigate a kin to its name sake old "iron sides" which was a advanced frigate able to out run anything it couldn't out gun and out gun anything it could not out run, which if you think about it was the legacy of Kirk's ship.
Also if you consider the psychology of the time. With the Federation engaged in so many conflicts and its enemies multiplying the very image of the old Constitution class conjures up images of Federation ship supremacy, might be a worth while propaganda move on starfleet's part. The best part is it also calms the less militaristic elements because the old connie was not a dedicated war ship either so its a return to the true multi-tasker.
One can imagine it like the return of old cars, with the release of the Mustang 2009, Challenger 2009, and Camero 2010 cars, this whole legacy of great American cars reborn with modern technology a rekindling of the passionate driving experience.
