ehm, since when is an AI about to be balanced? you might have missed, 1337_64M3R, that the merciless ai already cheats.. making an ai that is as good as an human without cheating is something no game got till now, cause the problem is equivalent to construction artificial intelligence, which is not possible at the moment

The AI - as in all games - is ment to be interessting to play against, and therefore it has to field all vessels, and not just a few that fit their strategy. Think of missions or the like. In many campaigns an AI will start with a fully-operational base while you jump around with a single constructor. Thats not "fair" either

We are even thinking about pure-AI vessels just for the purpose of making it more fun to play against it - or to capture that stuff

Sadly i cant find a "rightclick - new - add cool ai with cool anme" option, sorry.
We have some ideas for a more adaptive and intelligence AI that might even be usable without giving her cheating.. but thats something for the future. so far i'm happy with giving the ai bonuses like new ships, and i think that will get us a bit of a "scenario character" that should be fun
