Late game assimilation

Well, even without the life support, Borg would survive. They can survive in space, you know?

So, my suggestion is this:

The Borg beam over a boarding team and they will assimilate over the time your whole crew. But... will they really?

200 crew members against 10 Borg... the Borg would be wiped out in no time. You have 200 crew members with 200 attack points. (Value 1,0)
You have 10 Borg members with an attack value of total 17 (value 1,4 + 0,3 suprise effect)

The borg will kill 17/2 crew members and the half of it will become Borg members again. So you have a total of 10+(17,5/2)=18 Borg members.

Each borg member has got a defensive Value of 1,5 by standard (race specific), so we have a def total of 27 point.

The remaining troops on the ship: 200 - 17 = 183 = 183 attack point. 27 def to 183 att. --> The Borg are wiped out.

Next example:

200 Crew members (Federation 1/1) against 50 Borg members (1,7/1,5):

Round 1: The Borg attack at first. They take away 85 crew members. They gain 85/2 = 42.

The Borg are now on a total def value of ( 42 + 50 ) * 1,5 = 138.

We have 200 - 85 crew members left = 115 - 138 = 23 points left. 23/1,5 = 15 Borg members survive.

Round two: (15 in-game seconds later or so)
Borg are at turn: 15 * 1,7 = 25,5 attack points. You kill 26 enemy crew members and take over 13 of them.
The borg are now on a membership-level of 15 + 13 = 28

The Federation got 115 - 26 = 89 crew members. They attack: 89 att vs. (28*1,5) = 42 - 89 --> The borg are wiped out.

Example three:
We take 200 Feds crew members against 57 Borg: (only 7 more !!!)

Round one:
Borg attack: 57 * 1,7 = 97. They take over 48 crew members. Total of 105.
Feds attack back: 103 crew members left... (105*1,5) - 103 = 54 --> /1,5 = 36 left.

Round two:
Borg attack 36 * 1,7 = 61 ... they take over 30 crew members. Total of 66 (they are more than at the start)
Fed attacks back: 42 crew members left... well, you know what will happen. Feds will be wiped out.

Maybe we could solve it in a round based sub-system?

Fair enough (though Borg do need some sort of generic life support (regeneration/sleep cycle/etc) that gets represented as life support in FO). A minor lore/wording tweak:

"Disable Life Support" -> "Sabotage Life Support"  (ya know, like, replace air with plasma coolant 'n stuff)

Replace 'Life Support' with 'Borg Vinculum'... without that working, Drones are likely to kill each other because of their original personalities (and racial hatred) returning. Some might even self-destruct because of the Collective's safeguards.
