Some people have been asking for new gamemodes and gameplay features so i have thought of a somewhat decent idea (i think).
How about a new game mode called wave mode or last stand.
A map based around earth and starfleet is having a last stand, you get given a certain ammount of resources and you must survive as long as you can agaisnt a borg/dominion onslaught wave after wave for as long as you can, maybe with a scoreboard to see who lasted the longest on each map. Microing on these maps would be very important as if you lose a ship there will be nothing to replace them once your resources run out so ranking up would be important.
You could do a dom last stand , a federation last stand ect anything i suppose up to the map makers i guess.
what do you think.

good. We just lack the tools to make it.

This was an idea for the devs to implement not you and map makers to work their magic.

We have to tools for it anyway.

Can easily be done in MMM. Not sure about the keeping score part unless looking in the Admiral's log counts.

Well, simply start an AI game and you have what you suggest
.
But in fact I like the idea very much. Leads me to something like "historic battles". For example the battle at Wolf 359, or for the Dominion defending against the attack of the Tal Shiar/Obsidian Order.

Hehe, I was just thinking this an hour ago and came over to post.
Another game mode I thought would be cool would be a capture and hold gametype a'la Dawn of War II. You could have a few planets or abandoned stations on the map as the capture points and have the supply stream based upon what you currently hold.

Well id have thought you would need scripts to actually do the mod so i assumed the devs would need to do that, if it can be done in MM then even better.

king of the hill mode, a nice idea on paper. there is also the style of holding multiple spots. which would work ok in a game with so many units. problem with king of the hill based on something geographical is that certain races can turtle better than others. if its based on time, then races with defences that give back a lot of usefullness in a short amount of time (ie feds) would be better. if it was long term defence then dominion would be good with perimeters.
also normal gameplay is kinda king of the hill, most games are mostly about getting more res to make a bigger fleet. hence control moons for longer.

I like the wave mode because it would be kinda interesting to see what you could hold off with limited ships and money. But I agree with Myles in that control zones or king of the hill is basically a normal game

Well king of the hill is basically more like a domination mode with one strategic target.
You guys should try out "dawn of war 40k" (maybe with soulstorm), there you had maps with strategic points, and after you captured a specific amount the timer went down, forcing the enemy to react. You could still win by annihilate the enemy of course.
@topic: ahhh, who doesn't like defense maps. Great idea

romulans and dominion, their static defences take longer to be effective.
these horde matches would encourage playing as fed. so playing as romulan could make it more difficult

Try 1v3 Merciless on Central Point.
Easy with Fed, and still possible with Romulans. Don't forget their cloakable turrets or the really annoying Serkas.

their turrets are good, but take longer than fed turrets to set up for an effective defence. if the first wave was too strong it could hurt romulan turtles. dominion are similar, but to a lesser degree, as their basic turret can do ok.
