hi all,
basicly the idea is to forget about klingon shipyards. klingons have no shipyards
instead they have halls (a better name would be good). a hall is where warriors meet to drink, fight and talk about glory
. every hall spawns a ship of player's choice for free. it would be the same as shipyards now as far as ship distribution goes, so 3 halls with ships allowed as in shipyards now. the difference is that u can pick just one ship to be spawned every x seconds. the time of spawning is directly related to xp gained from killing the enemy ships. as ships cost no dil/trit (warriors come on their own ships and decide to join ur fight depending on how well u r doing) every hall has a constant drain of dil/trit. the amount it costs to upkeep a hall depends on how many ships u lost in the last x minutes (if ur klingon warriors are dying u must buy more blood wine to keep the new ones coming). and thats it.
i know this idea has rough edges and it would be a pain to balance it but i think it would improve the gameplay and give more of a klingon feel to the klingons

For the love of Kah'less forgive me if it's not...
But I'm trying to work out if this is a joke or not...

well, yea
now every race is mostly based on -> expand so u can have more res so u can build more ships so u can expand ...
with my idea the klingons would have an alternative route. u can do the same as others "expand..." cuz ur halls have high upkeep but u can also try to maximize ur effectiveness with ur ships so warriors from all around the empire will come to join u
EDIT: this is not a joke

Sounds very interesting Tom: similar to the Noxter idea, but with a bit of work I think that's cool and actually holds pretty well to the "hall" story behind klingon exploits. Not sure that the station names would need to be changed though - just name the resource and explain that the empire or those warriors finance their own ships in the Imperial Klingon shipyards.

Another thing I'd like to see added to the Klingons is "Support from a Great House". We know that almost all Klingon ships are owned by the houses, and they in turn give their support to the Emperor who commands the Empire. I would love to see something where you are allowed to purchase ships for free based on xp or a kill counter or something. Make it something cool like warp is for the federation, but done in Klingon style.
However it would be done, I would love to see the political aspect of the Klingons, because we saw a lot of that in the show. It would be cool to "buy" loyalty from a house and get ships in return somehow.

Indeed Mal. Perhaps - and I know this sounds a bit Ferengi-like - but maybe you get a [edit] randomized [edit] message saying something like "the great House of Dur-ass (
) gives you support "you are awarded 50 supplies for your duty" or... "you have been sent 50 barrels of bloodwine for your glorious campaign!" . Ships just sounds a bit too much like the Federation, but supplies could be nice... perhaps if supply costs might be added to research as another balancing tool for the Klingons
Just one small correction Chancellor. The emperor is just a figurehead (after he was cloned).

Oh, right. Forgot about that.

I like this idea. One thing I would change is that halls use a constant upkeep rate so that if you start doing poorly you can still rebound. That way, if you lose a lot of ships in a Borg attack, your ability to replace them isn't suddenly several times more difficult.

Interesting idea! I think this would definitely give the Klingons a unique twist, though I'd have it slightly different myself.
I would keep the whole ship building thing (I like the fact that their first ship yard comes with three actual docks and would like to keep that aspect alive). However, I'd remove some (maybe ALL, since research isn't really a favoured Klingon tradition) of the research facilities and replace them with a booze up station; "The Halls of Honour" or something. Here, the better you do, the more likelyhood you have of attracting a "notable commander" who will them take command of a newly commissioned ship and give the ship in question an instant boost to Veteran Status. I'd probably allow it so that the player can choose which ship to upgrade to save from the annoyance of waiting ages only to have a crappy ship get a great commander or something silly.
In addition, you might attract other notable characters who could pass on knowledge about past victories when they did something like "released the Disruptor safeties and overcharged them" to gain a permanent increase of 10% to weapons on all ships (in other words, research in disguise - albeit much more haphazard since you don't know exactly which research you'll get!). though the research thing would need some more thought to balance it against opponents who are exceptionally quick or slow at researching.

Giving the Klingons 1 research station instead of several makes them seem like more efficient researchers than the 2 station Starfleet, which they are not.

From my perspective, it'd take the emphasis off research (perhaps altogether) as I've never seen the Klingons to be much of a researching type.

KLINGONS, USE THE SAME SHIP, AND JUST MODIFY IT. THE D-7 IS BASICLLY EVERY KLINGON SHIP, OF COURSE THE NEW ONES ARE MUCH BETTER. RESEARCH IS NOT THERE STRONG POINT. I WAS WATCHING STAR TREK GENERATIONS HOW DOES A OUT OF DATE BIRD OF PREY KNOCK OUT THE FLAG SHIP OF THE FEDERATION SO QUICK?

They have Scientists, what exactly do you think those scientists do all day? Aside from 'combat training' with rival scientists...

if the honor resource will be implemented that would be gr8 idea. if u build a hall u could buy "a gra8 house support" for it giving bonuses or specials ships or something depending on a house but if u had the same hall type with two opposing houses u would get a penalty.
