klingon ship upgrades

today is a tom's new topic day so here's another one:

since klingons has more science stations/shipyards then the other races i would like to see upgrades per ships for them.

so for k'vort u would get:
  • speed upgrade - speed from 100 to 120
  • weapon upgrade - adds photon torpedo
  • range upgrade - weapon range changed from short to medium

this would have to be adapted for every ship of course. it would also add more uniqueness to the klingons.

the reasons for this r many & boring. the main is imo that klingons right now can be easily outmicro with most ships being short range & too slow.

what u think about that people?

im sorry tom but i strongly disagree, at least for kligons heres why

this has been suggested already for feds and this would fit better on feds, because the feds are a more scientific race, who we know like to upgrade there ships, and refit them many times, kligons are more attack based, and in my point of view, not concered with the upkeeping of many things, so long as you have honnor, i just dont think it fits, i think it should be placed on all fed whips, with upgrades and refits, changing appearance and stats, as this does fit feds more

like your idea, but its for feds, not kligons,

we wont to remain with upgrading existing vessels to be a Romulan core element, but i could think of something similar for the Klingons, we already discussed something similar, but experience related, so different rank-up models for the Klingons with more choices or something. who knows what the future brings  :thumbsup: noted your ideas down

Another idea might be to give some passive abilities to birds of prey.  Maybe put something like the saber has that decreases hit chance for torpedoes and pulse weapons.  Now that I think about it, something like that would make more sense on a brel.  We've seen DS9 eps were the klingons made straffing runs and avoided most of the fire because they're so small.  Gameplay wise it might help make up for the short weapon range on most Klingon ships.  Part of why sabers are so useful is they have everything from speed to weapon range, and their lack of firepower is made up for in large numbers.

does anyone else think that its odd that the kilingon ships are so small. most of the times the "attack" race in a rts has large hulking units, and the smaller ships belong to the more high tech races.

In startrek keep in mind the quarters take up a lot of room... and the Klingons don't really care for creature comforts  :thumbsup:

Well i was just thinking out loud of course they are the right size because they are seen onscreen as being that size.

@optec: thx for the reply. my idea is to buy photon torpedo upgrade for bop for lets say 800d/800t and every bop now has photon torpedos. no refits or anything. similar to starcraft: zergling speed upgrade for ex. perheps this would mess the balance too much. i still like klingon playstyle the most, i just have hard time with sabers & rhienns, so instead of getting better myself i thought i could cheat my way out of it  :sweatdrop:

@ray: i agree that feds r more scientific but it wouldn't fit them better since they have just 1 science station. we had this debate in the other thread(s). the feds r well balanced if not OP and pretty much ok considering what i've seen in the shows ihmo. they r not in ur opinion. case closed.

i will check the startunit performance of all races (brel, rhienn etc) this week to see if everything is alright here, maybe the brel gets a little love here and there

wow. thx optec. it's way more then i expected. now i feel kinda bad because i give u more work  :blush:

while u'r checking please take a look at how refited rhienn/saber/bug can be micro around b'rel. while b'rel is a bit faster those ships have 360 arc of fire. u can always play cloak/decloak but with 69 energy it's not possible to use 'gravity mine' (the sa or b'rel, i think thats what it's called) then. medium weapon range for b'rel maybe  :innocent:.

Yeah, brel should have torpedoes, even if they are weaker (not really Klingon-like i know, but a compromise).  :sweatdrop:
