It has other benefits then stats, like its weaponrange and its passive abilitiy - and its available earlier. The kbeajq has been empowered to give the Klingons a good and stable backbone vessel in the early game stage, supporting the brels and kvorts

Make it into a Veteran, and you'll know why you want at least one.  40% damage reduction on a destroyer?  Sure, please focus-fire on the ship that can ignore you while my Vorcha eat you alive.  Thank you, come again!
