i agree that spacedock is to huge of a structure to effectively be incorporated into game place, but as for the DS9 type cardassian station i think it can be incorporated because i dont think its that big of an station, but i dont know how big the DS9 model is.

DS9 (originally Terok Nor) is one of very few cardassian starbases comparable to Starfleets ones. Because of the lack of great engineering many systems often malfunctioned, and the exterior docking makes the station more compact, but it's still huge.

Edit: I want to make clear that if I write "starbase" I mean these giant space constructions which won't be built in recently discovered regions until it's safe race-related territory.
Starbases are no outposts.

Just before I get misunderstood again

well i know that the cardassian station is big, roughly 2 galaxy-class ships end-to-end, yet the galaxy-class ships in FO dont look that big to make a cardassian station impractical

Impractical... well: It took the engineering crew of DS9 more than a year to get things at least halfway working again. And some spare parts had to be salvaged of another base of the Nor type, and this base was abandoned by the cardassian forces too. So I would conclude, if Cardassia abandones two of these bases, that they cannot be that practical in serious situations. Even in the End of DS9 the station was more improvised than correctly engineered. Cardassians build their stations like they search the parts on scrapyards.

first off the two main reasons that the crew of DS9 took so long to get the station operating effectively are because when the cardassians left they "...took everything value..." and the second is the lack of compatiblity between cardassian and federation technology.  And how the Nor stations are use is open for discussion.

The other Nor station was Empok Nor and it was abandoned do to cardassian experiments gone out of control, i think.

The experiments on Empok Nor were the only reason that was revealed by the salvage team, so this is correct.
But if these stations were that essential or important or supereffective, the Cardassians would have tried to recover it somehow. They had indeed no way to defend themselves against the effect of that experiments (like Garak painfully experienced), but at least they would have tried to find a way with more effort.

Cardassians aren't good engineers in general, that is the reason for the lack of compatibility and why cardassian technology is often quite inferior to other races technologies. If almost every system is just scrapped together, it's just natural that foreign systems won't fit that good.

Empok Nor was likely about as important as any other station.

On the 'Spacedock' subject, I think the Devs said they had plans for the big mushroom station. Have to wait and see what.

Really? Could you direct me to the post in question? - the only mention I have ever heard of it is that it might be included as a map object. DS9 on the other hand will be in for the NPC Cardies. :)

It was a while ago in a long-dead thread.

Hm, can't seem to find it, but I'll try to inquire :)

It may take a while to look, considering the number of threads there are... The Project Progress list has 'New Federation Spacedock model' in the Low priority section, though.

Yeah, that's just the Outpost though, as far as I remember :) . The actual Spacedock was removed as a model a number of years ago because it just didn't fit :).

Federation Spacedock - Federation Outpost... I'm not seeing the similarity... A new Outpost model would likely say 'Outpost' rather than 'Spacedock'. FO has typos, but I haven't seen a station given the name of another station before.

"Spacedock" refers to a specific station.  Spacedock was the giant mushroom shaped station that you can see in many of the TMP Movies with Kirk.  It's in orbit of Earth and it's enormous.  As far as I know there are only 1 of them and it is "Spacedock".

  The Outposts are just that.

FO typically referred to all stations of that type as a Spacedock. 'Earth Spacedock' isn't the only one of its type, there is at least one known station of the same type, the much larger Starbase 74.
