This reminds me alot of a game called Conquest Frontier Wars I own it and it's very fun going form system to system and having to trudge along supply ships to resupply the fleet with weapons and such. They did something similar for the Fleet Command MOD. Capital ships resupplied fighters with torpedos and stuff. Would you add supply stations and such? The game I mentioned above rules! All sort of strategy and stuff. Cheap to buy and I'm always open to playing it with someone!

I heard on DITL that the Miranda class carried supplies during the Dominion war, we can either have that or that freighter off of SFC3/BC if we are going to use supply ships.

I also read from DITL that Shelley Class star ships were used as a cargo ships during the Dominion war, but it would be easier to just have miranda class like [STC]FA DEFIANT suggested...

Your right, the Shelly did transport cargo for the fleets also. The Shelly carries more but isn't as powerful...seeing as how it's unarmed while the Miranda has 6 Phaser banks and torpedos (plus 2 mega phasers I think).
I have an idea, be able to make 2 classes, 1 that can defend itself but carry less cargo and another unarmed for larger fleet actions.

Thats an good idea to be able to make to different classes of supply/cargo ships(what ever you wanna call it). But it would also be a good thing that the stronger one wouldnt be too powerful. Otherwise if they travel in big groups they would be too hard target and that wouldn't be right. If cargo ships are able to defend them selves against warships it would counter the "divide fleet thing" and they wouldn't need special protection.
Cargo ships should also have strong shielding. This would support the tv series (tng and ds9). Cause in many cases Enterprise/Defiant responded in a call for help and many times Ent/Def. was able to get there in time. Even though it took a while to get there and the cargo ship was under a attack the whole time.

A Miranda class is slighty weaker then a Saber class when it comes to weapons but slightly stronger in shielding. A Shelly class on the other hand has shields slightly weaker then an Intrepid class.
So it seems to make sense to have the Miranda buildable during the beginning seeing as how its lightly armed and shielded and have the Shelly be the ship to have in fleet actions...pending a yes from Optec of course

They say the Yeager was a supply ship too, but more for supplying DS9 and Bajor.

I just remembered that I saw supply ship in Star Trek TNG. It was called the supply ship Beco (not sure 'bout the spelling). Pulled off a picture... but I can't seem to get it work. Damn!!! I saw the ship in the end of episode "6x25 - Fistful Of Datas" of Star Trek TNG. I can see it there. If u happen to have the dvd collection or something...

Is there anyway to set a limit on weapons fire? Like being able to have a ship exhaust its weapons like the Enterprise did in Nemesis. after she collided with the Scimitar, Data stated that they had exhausted their complement of Photons. Any way to incorporate this into the game? I mean ships can't hang in a battle for ever, weapons do get depleted i mean, an F-14 only has a limited number of mavericks and sidewinders, right? Hell even Airwolf depleted her rocket armaments in the first episode.... maybe we could incorporate this into the supply idea? Prolly not possible but.........

I hope so... If your starships could ran out of torpedos it would make the supply ships even more important. Without torpedos many of the capital ships lose something like 60-70% of their firepower and they would be ineffective in a battle

Yeah... but it has all the time been just "supplies" not specifically (spelling
) ammo/torpedos. It could just as easilly be medical stuff/spare parts etc. The point is that you would have to use them. And take care of the supply ships/convoys and stuff.

These whole idea is nothing new (works great on Conquest Frontier Wars), but it's great and realistic and adds more strategy. But do you all know how hard is this to implement into FO with armada2 engine. I talked about that on irc with Optec and at least he said that he'll try something.
Oh, and I also covinced Optec and Doca to try that game, to see how the improved FO realistic supply system could work.
