Hey,
I was thinking about how to change the federation vessels so that they fit better into the canon.
My ideas would only change the the "positions" of the vessels and do not touch the balance of the game.

Monsoon -> Nova
Canaveral -> Nova - Rhode Island
Nova (Mayson) -> Yeager (Yeager-(NCC-65674)-Typ)(Mayson)
Akira -> Steamrunner
Excelsior II -> Akira

This would put out the non-canon Monsoon and Canaveral classes. In addition the Steamrunner would be back as a normal vessel and the (too old) Excelsior II would become a warp in vessel. This all would only cost the creation of half a ship (Yeager is a half Intrepid).
What do you think?

The excell 2 is not that old its a reconstructed refit of an old design, new components, new weapons ect its basically a new ship. You telling me quantum torp are old? because they only just started being widely used by the feds.

I suppose the kbeq should also be ditched as that's of similar design to the old d7.

You said this wouldn't affect the balance of the game... well you just ditched the monsoon which plays a key role in the current fed game play you replaced a monsoon which is short ranged with a long range ship and a long range ship with a medium ranged ship.

I don't think you really thought about this at all and i hate everything about this idea.

I think he was suggesting to shuffle around the ship models and keep the roles exactly the same, meaning the nova would become a short-range ship with HDSG and the Rhode Island Nova would become a long-range support ship.

While I can tell you're trying to make it as unintrusive as possible, this is still a lot of work just to bow down to a standard that most of us don't care about.  The other races are loaded with ships that weren't in the shows because the one thing Star Trek was lazy about was making lots of 3d models.

We just don't care about canon enough to rework all these ships.  The monsoon may not be canon but it's cool and it fits the starfleet motif.

Maybe i read this wrong but to me he means to remove the monsoon and canaveral.

to any new players lurking reading this, please don't assume the community at large is this rude. i'd like to think this community welcomes new people and is friendly.

@mrxt, speaking as you've done above is only gonna make new people think everyone here is rude and doesn't care about their ideas. and that's definitely not what this community is like, even when new players come up with repeat ideas, or ideas that arent perfect, the sort of thing you did will only make them leave. that's a bad thing for any community, but doubly so since this one definitely isnt big enough to be rejecting people on a whim.

about the idea: i think he means remove the non canon ships. while canon is great, that idea is basically telling the devs to remove some of their work and bin it. they liked the monsoon/canav enough to build models and put them in the game, so i think they wouldnt be very open to the idea of getting rid of them.

the idea of the akira swapping places with the e2 has been brought up before and is one i think has merit. many people talk of the torp spamming of the akira, that matches the e2's current role. and the e2 would be replacing the e1 as a general ship with medium everything (like the akira is at present).

Just to point out, the Excelsior II is not a refit anything - it's a completely new class built as a sister to the Sovereign :)

Note to self do not dislike anyone's ideas because the drama queen known as myles will whine.

Wooooo I'd love to a queen :D

but seriously, if you really don't think you've done anything bad, then a better passive aggressive "note" for you would be to just not post in threads responding to new guys, if you really "hate everything about [the] idea" then don't waste your breath posting.

that's all i wish to say on this matter, hopefully people won't avoid this community because of the odd sour response.

I think you have mistaken me for someone who cares about your opinion.

Ill post where ever i please just because you don't like what i post doesn't mean i will stop, if you cant handle it then you can remain out of the discussion, its you with the problem remember not me and well done for derailing yet another thread myles.

I did not just tell him his idea was crap i said it was a bad idea and i don't like it then gave him the reason as to why, if you think disagreeing with someones idea or opinion is rude then you have alot to learn and you will find adult life very difficult.

Edit: just to correct that because i know you like to have the last word no matter what, i gave him the reasons why i didn't like it then told him its a bad idea.

Calm down. Keep the personal discussions to the PM system please. :)

@MrXT, you've lately been instigating a number of pseudo-fights with various members, consider this some sort of pre-warning. Keep the discussions civil and criticize ideas, not people. Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Forum Rules

All further comments about this can be directed to my PM box etc. :)

I came back and read this again, and I realized that I had no clue what the Yeager class was.  So I looked it up and it's BADASS!!!  WHY they didn't put this into STO is beyond me, since they needed such a large variety of ships anyway...

So while I still don't think that the monsoon deserves to be removed, and I actually do like the current Akira and E2 setup (The long thin chassis of the E2 presents a smaller profile for enemy long-range fire while the squarish design of the Akira suggests it was designed for a high turning speed in close combat) I would very much like to see the Yeager class come in as a mixed-tech or Avatar ship.

The more I look at it the more I like it, honestly I think it's my favorite ship I've seen in the history of the feds.  It doesn't look as smooth and untouchable as most feds, to me it feels more practical.

hehe, when I started to play FO I had very similar ideas, but rather focused on Klingons. I think Myles made a good point: the Devs like those ships, they put lots of work into them - they want to have them. I got used to those ships, but when I fight the AI I still build only canon fleets ;). Once I even modded my FO so that the AI did as well.

@Tryptic: one could see he yeager class in many many DS9 episodes :P and basically it's a rather strange mix of a Marquis Raider and an Intrepid. It's strange since those Raider chassis' are usually much smaller :blink:. Nevertheless it has something special. Could imagine it as a rare warp in...

It doesn't look federation tho, it looks like someone stuck the head of an intrepid onto a fighter, don't like it at all, if you colored it red it might make a decent looking Klingon mixed tech ship but not fed.

mmmm yeah.  Why didn't they think of that sooner?

I know it's a bit out of place in the ST universe, but I still like it.

To me the Yeager looks like a fed version of a Klingon BoP but with a saucer instead of a neck.
