This is a station idea i've been playing around with recently. Specifically I could see the Romulans using this or maybe the Federation. The idea is that this would be a special station used for a new and upcoming avatar.
The Holographic Projection Station is essentially a station that can create holograms anywhere on the battlefield by using up special energy. Ideally these holograms would be holograms of ships or stations.
What kind of holograms can you make? Mostly you would be able to make holographic versions of your ships or stations. You could move these holographic ships around the map if you would like and these holograms will appear on both players minimaps like a normal vessel/station. Holographic vessels can fire weapons but due to the complexity of the technology the holographic projection station cannot emit enough energy to actually make these weapons inflict damage. Also, Holographic ships and stations can only take a few shots of enemy fire before they destabilize and dissapear.
The final ability this station would have would only be unlocked through ranking up (yes, this station can rank up through the continuous use of holograms). Once reaching Veteran rank, the holograms this station would use would create a small shockwave when destabilizing, momentarily disabling enemy vessel systems at random.
So how is this useful you may ask? The idea is that you would use this stations abilities to deceive your opponent. Ideally this station is for online use above anything else. You could generate a mining station by a nearby expansion to make your opponent think you are expanding to a new area. This will cause them to possibly divert forces to deal with said expansion only to find out it that it’s not an expansion at all. You could also create a fake yard to make your opponent think that you have the ability to repair ships in one area thus making them second guess their plans to attack. You could also have a few holographic vessels appear nearby an enemy expansion to make them think you are about to attack it thus forcing them to intercept or you could hide holographic ships amongst your normal ships to make it look like you have the numerical advantage.

A nice idea, but totally OP. How would you balance it?

Totally awesome idea. I love thinking about using it to make fake expansions

Very cool idea!

maybe if this fake exp was to be done by a ship rather than a station. so you have to get this holo ship there, and then it pretends to be an exp. i think its a bit much to be able to do this from your base.

Well, they are adding the Incursion back in.

balance by limiting it to 1 station 1 ship or 3 ships no station nomatter the rank of the holo station also all ships made by it come at once in one place so it doesnt get abused also a time limit on how long the ships exist and when they can be used again could be good

Yeah I forgot to mention something along the lines of this when I started the thread. Overall though yeah this is what I was aiming for.

Don't forget that these holograms could only take a few shots of enemy fire before they destabilize. You could ideally have your scout take a few shots at one to figure out if it is indeed a fake expansion or not.

Sounds like a perfect fit for a Section 31 avatar.

If we were to have a Section 31 avatar then yes it would. We are apparently getting an SFI (Starfleet Intelligence) avatar later so this station could be good for them as well.
As for the Romulans, I think this station fits them because the entire idea the station is based around is deceit. Plus we know that Romulans have experimented with holographic technologies in the past thanks to Enterprise.

Sounds like a beefed-up version of the Incursion's signature ability.

Reminds me a bit of the fake buildings in C&C Generals. I'd love it for the Romulans. In order to prevent raiding a bit you set up holographic mining stations(with holographic freighters as well). Or one could also mix real freighters with holographic ones. Of course these would be even more fragile, but they could buy you a bit of time
.
Great idea.

Great idea.

i thought that was extremely silly. the ships absorbed weapons fire somehow, which is ridiculous. if the holocrap can supply enough power to a holographic ship to make it absorb enemy weapons fire, then why not weapons? why have real ships at all if holographic ships get the job done equally as well. and why didnt seska notice these things were holograms and not real, seems her evil genius is tempermental.
