might lead to people playing "ladder only" matches where they only wanna play to get rank improvements.

so you favor games that tell people what to do and what not? Don't think this is the way FO shoulg go.

every game tells players what to do by virtue of the way its designed. games force people to play in certain ways. if the player doesnt like a particular game they can go play another game. by introducing a ladder (directly or indirectly) the game implies that competition is really important and hence generates people who only play to win.

no matter how fleetops is, it will always force certain things upon the gamer.

While I am tired of people using the same strategies over and over again, I am also tired of Elitism. Even as it is now I have heard so many times, "Oh I am definitely the best here for sure".  And it just makes me mad. Players used to be classy when saying that and were very humble about it. Now it just leads to arguments about who's the best, and brings out the worst in each of us.
