Hi,
i started to translate FO(3.0.7) after reading this topic(about translation to french):
//www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,6473.msg107616/topicseen,1/#new
before i thought its not needed, because the most people i know can understand written English although they dont speak english and because of the many Star Trek specific words which nearly identical in german and english. But now i know, not all think so. And I think it will help to find more german-speaking Players for FO because the inhibition threshold to try out FO is lower if the native language is avaiable.
I now translated nearly the whole menu, borg-tooltips and a handful of dominion tooltips at my work free day.
I attached the files i translated. Like I written before its not completed. The file named Dynamic_Localized_Strings.h is in work progress, the file named label.map is finished, but not perfect(I worked a whole day nearly without a break and used the Search-and-Replace-Function of the Editor so it will contains failures).
Feel free to use it in any way you want, like play, integrate to a later FO version, correct and repost or complete the translation.
If nobody reply to say he continue with a part of the translation till my next (work- and family-)free day I will continue and attach it here.
If you want to translate all or a part please reply here to prevent several people translate the same part. If finished please reply with attachment. Same way if you found or correct my mistakes.
To find the location i stoped working for continuing please search for
"AUTOTOOLTIP-domU_life1.odf", "
at the file "Dynamic_Localized_Strings.h"
If you want to try out, please replace the files in Installation-Folder with the attached files. I only tested it 15 minutes with instant action and 5 minutes in a multiplayer game. So be sure to make backup of the original files.
Hope you will enjoy it.

Just checking, but do different language versions all work on multiplayer? I'm guessing the originial A2 did, and I'm guessing the languages are being integrated the same way, but I think it's still an important thing to check

I checked it last night by starting a Multiplayer game with Dexter. I have seen all(currently translated) tooltips and menus in german and Dexter have seen all in english. There was no error messages or other problems.

Sorry for do double-work Ruediger83. I decided not to post that i translate before a big part is done. Because i dont knowed if it works and not wanted to be the guy with the big mouth...but nothing behind. To tell the truth i thought i would finish the work on a day if nobody disturbes me. But now I know its a much bigger amount of work as it seems to be if you play the game and see the little tooltipps  . So I feel even more respect to the FleetOps-Creators.
To all helpers: I would ask you to check the (newest avaiable) label.map first. Because its nearly completed. So we can mark it as done. Please post the new version if you do changes and make notes of your changes if more then one of us change things at a the same time we can put the changes together in one file.
I know any translations sound strange or stupid. I most had a better translation before but was to long for the buttons often. Please remember to try that out if you changed a phrase.
I have choosen the "Sie"-form or if possible a neutral form, because you play a fleet-admiral and it seems logical to me that not many people "duzen" an admiral at work.

I have read that the FO 3.0.8 is complete but still in test. So it will be released in short time
If the FleetOps-Creators read this i want to know if there are big changes to the file Dynamic_Localized_Strings.h
...if, it would be better to break translating till the new patch is out. Or can you post the new Dynamic_Localized_Strings.h so we can work on it.
Im sure the label.map dont changed by you, because it contains only menu dialogs.
What do you think? Continue with old version? Make a break till next patch release? Give us the new file? Other suggestions?

There will be a great deal of changes to the dynamic strings list I'm afraid - many vessels are getting new passives or abilities, and there are a lot of spelling/grammer corrections as well I am sure

At least it gives you time to organize with others who are translating, and figure out who should do what sections.

Yep, sadly even the whole tooltip format has changed, as we redid some stuff related to "font icons" (like the colored text)
The current way to do localized version (using the dynamic strings) is good, but sadly it requires a lot of updating if not a complete redo of the file with every patch. I want to set up a CMS for managing different languages with the next version of my development tools, but that requires some time, expect that during 2010, at least thats my plan. If we can get an active translator community up and running by then I'm more then welcome to help. If I should happen to find some time, i will do some German translations too. The next patch will feature a lot of text along with the new passives
