So I was watching Nemesis yet again and thought that a cool feature for some ships might be the ability to do something like a full phaser firing arc: as when the Enterprise rapidly fires in a 270 degree forward arc and then fires torpedoes when it hits an enemy cloaked ship. Possibly this could be an ability for a few of the support ships, which gives a chance to do damage and reveal the cloaked ship for a second or so (the phaser scores a hit and torpedoes fire). Of course, the damage inflicted would have to be minimal, as the revealing would be the main weapon there. Whaddya think?

(Of course for another version, if the developers so wish it)

some ships can hit cloaked ships, i forget which ones as i hardly use them but i am certain there are ships in most races that have it.

Well yes, those that have the passive scanning ability. I was just hoping for a little special effects or a button for a few others... or in exchange for those with the passive ability.  :whistling:

I guess is difference is that the ships in game can detect the cloaked vessel, and then proceed to fire on it, while what happens in Nemesis, is that one fires rapidly in all directions as a means of detecting cloaked vessels. It would definitely be cool to be able to order a full phaser spread, but that would also be quite tricky to make.

yep there are no plans for 360 degree shooter action in fleet operations so far.

The general mechanics of hiting cloaked vessels have been redone. special abilities or weapons which deal area damage did always decloak hidden vessels in the v3pr. in v3 cloaked vessels are ignored by abilities that require targeting, no matter if they are area or not. example: the dominion Excessive Strike special abilitiy fires 3 torpedos at nearby hostiles. cause your jemhadar officer needs to target these vessels somehow they will never decloak or hit a hidden warbird. A Klingon Ion Storm however will decloak your opponents. For better control of the game mechanics, all special weapons capable of decloaking will read a "may hit cloaked vessels" in their tooltips.

Cloaking got a little more powerful and efficent. Many Romulan Officer Abilities play with cloaking for example, like increasing the damage dealt from the first volley after droping cloak. Cool for hit and run action.

Thats pretty cool how that works...do you think that option will be in the patch project as well??

By the way, I´ve got a question about the romulans:

Will they able to cloak their stations as well as their ships?

That was my first thought when I tried to make some kind of mini-micro-mod for Armada2 years ago...
I failed.

But the idea was always in my mind :)

So you have to search for the romulans if you want them

as long as they have no shields and an elastic band flicked at them will destroy them, should make it balanced!

nope, at the moment there are no plans for cloaked buildings :)

One of the large problems I see with doing a 360 firing arc would be that the ship firing the phasers would hit the rest of the ships in the fleet. It'd be a little risky, don't u think?

humm there is potential H+S there, but if you think about it if your looking for a clocked ship you have your shields up and the battle has not yet started so generally you are at full health, remember this weapon don't do huge damage it just shows you where they are.

Yup; what I was thinking exactly Eufnoc. Perhaps... eventually... it could be an area of effect weapon; where every ship in the vicinity of that ship doing the 360 arc gets to fire a few torps at the decloaked target, before it recoakes (of course they suffer a massive failure-to-hit-rate)  B)

The more I think about it, the better it sounds... Might be an idea for a future version.
