(This is a fed dreadnought "Jupiter Class")
That is one highly unusual design

Are the other races' ships as bad as the Fed ones are? I had a free trial subscription and played maybe all of fifteen minutes. Not a fan of Pay to Play games anyway. If you insist I now pay for something which you gave me for free starting way back in 1966, then I guess I'll just have to go do something else. One of the really kewel things about being older than the Internet is I know how to go outside and play. lol

not as bad, people have fewer expectations of the klingon ships, they have seen more fed ships and loved more fed ships and know what to expect from fed ships. sto ripped that rug from under the fans and decided to change so much about the feds, that amplifies our dislike of the mistakes they made on fed designs.
for klingons we dont really expect much, and they didnt do a huge amount, most are pretty boring and nonoffensive designs. of course there are some howlers, really stupid looking ships, just not as numerous as with the feds. take the orion patrol cruiser for example, how can something so large be a patrol craft? it looks like a giant turd.

I understand why they do it, the amount of revenue they get from it world-wide. But you should either pay for the game and play free or get the game free and pay to play. One or the other not both.
Thats how these types of games work. You pay them for what they have already made, then pay them each month/year to get the rest of the (required to advance)content that they develop along the way. You only can get so far(rank/ship wise) with what you get out of the box because there will always be a need for higher and higher ranks/ships for the next several years or so. This game would still be years away from being released with the level of content required by this game if they released it all in one package which again obvious not how this genre of game works.
Plus they really peeved me off with that contest they had which was for US Residents only. When their customer base is world wide. Not that it really mattered anyway, they screwed that one up so much with people able to cheat on the voting and instead or re-doing the comp, they ignored what the community wanted and went with what they wanted, well what CBS I believe wanted.
Don't no way it was ever being referred to as a contest since it was legally speaking a sweepsteaks. And this was only even legal in 45? of the US states. Has i've said and many others have said a hundred times before its the rule of law of your country that prevented you from eligability. Many countrys don't allow transfers of prizes/awards with financial vaule with other countrys.
I mean STO isn't canon so what does it matter, hell I hope it isn't canon, Federation and Klingons in a war? That's 23rd century stuff. There are many more species out there they could have both powers go against.
As i've said before CBS says that it counts towards canon(forget the exact wording but basically in a way yes unfortunatly)...so if they do a movie or series that takes place around 2409 these ships/events will be involved in some way.

until they actually make something, it doesnt count for anything other than sto. they cant add to canon any other way than making star trek. i personally dont think they will make anything of this. and i hope they dont, cos sto is a load of crap.

Games are just as canon as novels, comic-books and fan-stories.
Canon is only what you see on TV or in cinema. The way it is looking now, STO-based Star Trek would barely even make it into some sort of TV-show. And I hope I don't live that day.

Being in an official game also doesn't mean it will be in a future series. If that was so, where's the Premonition and Aegian in canon?

Not that anybody would mind the Aegian being canonized.

The Aegian as a quite good design

It is, but I have a bad feeling that if we let STO continue future movies might be based off the game and other games might be based off it... :S

I don't think STO-designs would inspire the designs for coming Star Trek-productions in cinema or on television.
Why? As stated earlier in this thread, the proportions of many STO-ships are wrong. If you look at the Nova-Variants for example... the Quasar has nice pylons that however are too long... the nacelles are too far over the top and unusually broad for a SF-vessel. The Aurora is even worse in that point. While the Quasar has so many angles and edges, the Aurora is round everywhere and has a vanishing thin primary hull while having the longest and worst proportioned pylon/nacelle arrangement ever

I admit though, I like that you can combine the single parts of your ship-variants as you like them.

I'm not sure, I think I'd rather have another (even if somewhat crappy) ST series rather than see the whole franchise die out altogether.

Get George Lucas to reinvent Star Trek? xD
Nah, but
I had never ever considered any of those things while designing my own Nova-class refit ingame, but however I did always get the impression something was wrong with most of my ships.
Also, I was really expecting to see the Steamrunner get its own class with variants, admittedly one of the things I was looking forward to the most besides the Sovereign
