Fed Space dock?

Just to clarify, I want this station's size to be taken down to about the size of a Borg nexus. I want it to have an insane amount of crew (similar to a sphere)
I think this would be very special. but this has to be end-game research, maybe nerf the feds just enough so that they rely on late-game a bit more.
fed-roll still possible but a bit harder to do; They will rely on late-game ships more and so they need some things to make them powerful in late-game

If it is end game and The only function of this spacedock is to dock ships. then it is kinda useless. Cause you want to protect your ships early in the game with a spacedock, specially miners. Not at the end of the game when You have multiple sites where you mine and it is generally already decided who will win

Maybe a fighter-support station, that will enable deploying fighters for ships, that have civilian hangar bays. Then you could go into a battle with a slight initial offensive bonus and the fighters may catch some initial fire before the ships will do.
Then such a station would make sense - but it would be a tiny station. Something like a frontline-support station like an outpost but not as huge. Make it able to do many little tiny things:
- re-crew your ships
- bring out fighters for your ships (civ-hangar-bays) and for a little perimeter-defense (like about 8 fighters or so)
- let ships nearby repair there with two of the newtons repair-beams, so you dont have to send the ship back to the yard
- graviton-ping
- refit to be able to work as a mining-facility, that is able to handle 6 miners and not 3 (faster upload from miner to station) so you save yourself two mining stations at a moon pair.
Offense: 40 - 60
Defense: 100 - 160
Sys: 20 - 35
This for about... lets say 1200 dil and 600 tri and 50 supplies and here we go.

I like your idea sheva. I particularly like the idea of giving fighters to the civ bays ships. perhaps if this cost supply for every ship given fighters.
it could be an alternative to sfc, but late game.
Not so mad about it being a super mining station or having repair beams. Maybe give it a repair team special.

Well, I thought about a possible mining station, that can take the work of those two and saves you some space. It would only make sense at a double moon pair, because this station wont get more dil or tri out of a single moon - it is just a larger one. So I think it is balanced in the way of costs... maybe.
The build time would be a little over 2x a mining station and the costs also a little over 2x a single mining station PLUS the costs for the repair beam + fighter support (Lets say, that would be +800 additional dil and +800 additional tri or something like that)
It would be a good "expansion station", so you dont need to build a massive amount of turrets or a starbase. We know the outposts arent build because they dont have a reason in a real match. So a station with a reason might be better for your expansions.

I like it too. The avalon has the ability to get more fighters if they die, but if you just gave certain ships fighter escort, they wouldn't be able to get more when their fighters died. It would be a temporary bonus, and not very different than if you were to just buy more ships.

Make it so you can only build it after sfc, but it costs alot to do it.

i like adding repair capabilities to the mining station. maybe 1/3 the speed of a yard. and when a ship is repairing there can be no mining activity. ie miners and ships needing repair dock at the same spot. any miners damaged would be auto repaired then continue mining. would make some moons in damaging nebulae more plausible.

Especially if they did not have to dock to do it. What if it was like a combat tractorbeam where you could lock onto a damaged ship and repair them. The ship couldn't do anything else, but would go right back to mining when it was fixed, and you could make the repair speed lower than a stations.

i'm not a big fan of that. since mining stations already have a ship docking area, the repair feature would work well combined with the dock. a repair beam seems like something for a ship to use on another ship.
as the dock was originally designed for unloading mined stuff, the repair speed would still be slower than a yard.
