I will never play STO. I just know that I will never be able to convince myself that paying more than once for a game is worth it, even though I keep noticing the benefits... And you know, that makes me just hate the whole thing.
That, and taking a ship like the Excalibur that IMO is already established.
Um... Well I would have immediately voted Excalibur (the normal one
) had there not been the recent discussion about Galaxy evolutions (and I don't just mean the "EVO"). So now, I don't mind between those two.Actium

I vote for Galaxy MkII. Which, in my terms, means Galaxy-X. Because I feel like it.
So you like the rip-off better?

Depends on whether you class it as a rip-off. Excalibur is not a canon name for a ship class, so there is nthing wrong with using the name. And it looks beautiful. Like the nebula to the miranda.

They just took an existing Class, renamed it and gave it a new paintjob.

I don't consider the Excalibur a rip off, just because it shares the name of a fan made ship. Its honors a previous ship design, which by the way is the essential design pattern for all major ship designs after it, primary hull, secondary hull, 2 nacelles. It would make sense that in a time of uncertainty they would want to bring back the Constitution class star ship. To say its a rip off is like say the 2010 Mustang is just a rip off, completely disregarding all the new features and engineering that went into it. The Excalibur has the "soul" of a constitution class but is all 25th century.
Also consider that this mod has several ships that are MK II, is the Excelsior Mk II a rip off? I don't think so. Its a excellent combination of tested design and new technology. Why not do the same for the Constitution class, especially considering its history.
Would it make a difference if instead of calling it the Excalibur class they would call it the Constitution Class Mk III?

Who said anything about using the Excalibur name? I'm talking about Constitution Rip-off, not fan-ship name rip-off...

I don't see them as rip-offs because the names quite clearly indicates that they are a homage to the originals.

To me it might...sounds better than renaming it, that just makes them seem lazy.

First point, I misunderstood you then.
Second point, I totally agree.
Third point, I absolutely agree. However, just on design alone. I love it, it seems like a really elegant design. I agree it should just be referred to as the Constitution MK III. I can see them not doing that just because the Constitution under went a lot of changes. We don't know that the TMP Enterprise was MK II, it could be argued it was a MK III because the Enterprise under went changes in the TOS series.

I too misunderstood Tyler, I'm sorry. The whole thing with STO is the ship customisation for players, which you are welcome to disagree with, but I guess they are just showing us some presets, rather than actually showing real classes of ship. That's my view of it.

The class you refer to is the Oslo class.lptpsteve wrote:i dont mind the other ship based on norway/akira classes on the online site,it looks pretty good

I vote for the Excalibur. I would love to see alot of these, but the excalibur is an equivalent of a dreadnought, which would really help the Fed late game. It is just what they need IMO.

I bit more specific...there are two. The 'fan' one is the only Dreadnought Excalibur, right?

Are you talking about the one from the books? I thought that was a Galaxy Class named Excalibur, so probs not...
If you do a Google search for "Excalibur Class" you get some pics of a large ship and a link from stexpanded.wikia.com straight up. I assume that's the one we are voting for?
