Depends on what survived the battle.

If the cube ejects a sphere just before it gets destroyed, the sphere may very well survive the battle.  I think the sphere should be 2 regen, 1 beam, and 1 torp.

u mean u actually want the sphere to be a real sphere from fo

all i can say to that is no. a free sphere would just be nuts.

when u take down a cube u have a large fleet. large enough to finish off a mini-sphere afterwards. u wont be able to do the killing blow to a cube with anything that is too weak to finish a mini-sphere.

EDIT: threw a typo off a bridge.

You'd have to kill it before it leaves or joins other ships nearby. Even the weaker Borg ships can take a fair amount of damage, compared to their counterparts. If they have 1 or 2% health, then only a few of the stronger ships could finish it.

I don't like the idea of an escape pod inside the ship anyway, it would imply the Borg care about their drones escape. Their hangar bays are only supposed to have ships for assimilation in.

In first contact, the sphere was a backup vessel that was supposed to assimilate Earth in case the cube was destroyed.  Not really as an escape pod.  That's also why the Borg transported to the Enterprise.  It made a convenient backup to ensure that Earth was assimilated even though the sphere was destroyed.  The Borg were probably instructed to use whatever means necessary to assimilate Earth.  That's also why they tried to get Data to join the collective.  To ensure that Earth was assimilated.

They used it to escape an exploding Cube before starting the back-up plan, that fits it in the category. It's an escape pod in the same way the Galaxy's saucer is a large escape pod.

Not tomention that was a unique concept for the exact reason you mentioned, anywhere else it would be limited to the escape pod use that came before the time travel.
