Ok, ok I know the feds don't need more ships any faster than what they have now, but I was looking at some code and thought of an idea.  What if the feds had the option of building ships and have them finish before they are ready?  have them build with their curhealth set much lower than their max, and their shileds almost gone.  You could have twice as many ships that could die very quickly if you sent them into combat.  You could even balance it by upping all the build times and costs of regular ships, and allow you to build a ship for a little less in much less time, but you would sacrifice defenses.  the weapons on the ships would still be fully active, but their defenses would be would be nominal.

Any thoughts?

That way all you have to do is repair them to full after they've finished building! :woot:

Only if they get nailed with a replaceweapon that removes access to repairing and makes them ineligable for the newton's repair beam for a good, long while.

Well yeah, they would have a delay so you could repair them, but they would still take forever to repair.  Longer than it would have taken to build them in the first place.

this idea is OVER POWERED for FEDERATION, but for other races it might be okay... but not totally...  i could see the borg launching the ship who's uplink is destroyed/hits 0% would launch the half assembled ship with critical hull damage or something... (but it's over powered if it's regen sphere - or anytype of regen ship - unless the mod's for the constructed ship from uplink is totally random)

no in conclusion i think this idea for any races would make it over powered...

Perhaps it could be for one of the races not added yet, like the Iconians.  Sending ships through the fabric between parallel universes probably puts a bit of strain on the ship. :sweatdrop:

Perhaps they could never be repaired completely?

that would even be cannon, some of the galaxys used in the dominion war were incomplete. They left 65% of the decks empty. but actually i fear this gonna be exploited like hell.

i dont like this idea in general. one because it would make feds op even more. two because it just feels wrong.

and i think this was suggested before lol.

Yeah, we had something similar a while ago.
What's wrong about Feds and early commissioned ships? The fiction-fact that Feds usually don't send their people into certain death.
Feds use specials, sensor-dish-bogus most of the time and good ships. They don't try to outnumber their enemies.
I feel the Feds are good as they are maybe even better than they should be  :innocent:

Early commissioned ships feel more Dominion to me. However they already have spamming capabilities like there's no tomorrow. So maybe your idea would suit the gameplay of a faction still to come. :)

But we saw several times, when the feds needed a fleet, they would take mothballed ships, and ones still under construction and put a crew on them, just to get enough ships.  In TNG, with the romulan/klingon crisis, they had several ships that didn't even have a captian because they were in for repairs, or just comissioned.

Maybe this should be an idea for warpin?  some of the ships come warped in without full strength?  Like they were sent because you were actually in an emergancy  or they were just in a battle or something.  If we did that though, they should come in at random ranks as well. :sweatdrop:

Ok, that's a point. But I suppose we could find similar examples for each of the playable races in FO and I really don't know if it's fun to get a bunch of wrecks for your money or via warpin...  :ermm:

The other day I had two warpins with Galaxys and Ambassadors. Imagine they'd have been veterans  :kid:
I'm all for it just for the fun of warping ships in until I would have a free vet fleet  :shifty:
