Depends on the Avatar.
With Risner the Excel-II is a good support, but her Sovereign is more the kicking one.
With Mayson, the Excel-II is more of a medium flagship.

In terms of my most used, and essentially powerful ships, my list goes like this:
Sovereign
Phalanx
Remore
Defiant
Excelsior
Avalon
I'm not trying to nit pick here, but you clearly left me with that opinion. I can agree Raven, however I do think the Sovereign although very good is still quite an expensive ship. Where as I simply love the Defiant.
Rhaz, why I agree that the Excel II is the best out of that yard, I don't understand what you mean about the Defiant.
What I mean about the Defiant is that it is silly to firstly demand ships adhere to canon in terms of weapons hardpoints (Front/Rear phaser?) and I think the Defiant is still an excellent ship since it fufills a totally different purpose than the Excelsior II (I was simply commenting on how in my opinion, the list that Captain Proton put out is a little sketchy, as the Defiant is superior for most purposes especially in a non-sp game to the Sovereign. It is faster, pulse based weapons are sort of neat, but most importantly if you're ever manuevering a large fleet and attacking the Defiant can 'clump' faster and in a better position thus allowing more ships to fire on the target than in a homogenous Soveriengn group). The Defiant is also extremely useful for attacking expansions. I will still stay the E-2 is the best, no problem there.

Ahh, so I did. Thanks for pointing that out
Well, to avoid confusion. I meant the most used ships, not specifically the most powerful

Mayson Excel II FTW.
Based on the cost and the fact that you don't need to tech up so far it's definitely Mayson's 'Edge' if you will...
