Maybe you could just let the tech on a captured vessel "be analyzed", so at least the new crew can use it.
To deal with the balance issues, make something like the regeneration cycle for the borg, for a while the captured ship does not do anything until your people have figured out the "new magic". That "research time" could also be adjusted in regard to the size and the number of techs to be analyzed.

Though i had this idea i still don´t like captured vessels to keep their tech, logic aside. To take other peoples stuff and put it to use to better the lifes of any sentient creature is the domain of........

the BORG.  :borg: :borg: :borg:

You may want to check, cause ships with cloaking devices already keep them when captured. The point in this is, why do ships keep the cloaking device but strangely loose all other abilities?

Because Cloak isn't researched, it comes by default. Only the Breen one needs research and I think you lose it.

Yup, you do lose it. I definitely have mixed feelings about keeping tech: on the one hand, you spent all that time trying to capture that ship, on the other, you never spent the money to research those technologies, so why should you keep them (it'd be a bit more of a gamble to lose a ship that way... but probably very unfair).

The way I see it, if you take a Research lab you should get any tech that has been researched and not be able to research any others. It makes sense that way. A 50-75% chance of the owner deleting relevant data (scrapping the pods) would be useful there. It could be a chance of losing all pods on the station, or each pod be seperate.

If any military actually cared about being fair, they wouldn't take ships in the first place.

technically that would be possible, even without a replaceweapn

Hold on here, they had just barely captured it and were on there way back to romulan space. They probibly would have outfitted it with one if they had succeded

Need I remind you this is a game?

I do like your idea with capturing a Research Lab: it would add some spice to capturing structures... other than simple decomissioning. :(

Well, I captured science stations, starbases and shipyards.

What do you think, should I be able to do with it?

The field got a VERY long range of abilities I might gain and that might destroy the game balance to the bones.
BUT, there MUST be something you get in return.

I thought about REAL mixed tech ships, not only upgradet versions, but that would lead to:
a) Losing the own fleet for only using the advanced mixed tech versions - nothing canon
b) It is a domain of the borg
c) It will eventually lead to new dreadnoughts and Uber-ships, we already have en masse. (Dominion, Romulan and Borg)

... dont know. My head is heavy, I go to sleep.

we are thinking about some fundamental changes in mixed-tech, but we do not want to overemphasize it. mixed-tech is the candy, not the cake  but i will take a look into the ideas posted here
