I would have thought as well as buying out enemy ship designs (bribery abilities unlocking mixed tech) the Ferengi would rely heavily on mercenaries and surplus/derelict ships to wage a war (theyve gotta be doing SOMETHING with all those ships theyve been nicking from armada games....). I cant recall all of the races off the top of my head but the SFC series and some of the others had various pirate races (orions etc) which I can imagine doing a lot of dirty work for the Ferengi. How a mercenary mechanic would be made significantly different to the federation warpp ins i dont know though.

Kind of a funny thought, the Ferengi would be the mercenaries of Armada as the Zahn Consortium is the forces of corruption to Empire At War.

same analogy came to mind on a superficial trader mercenary level. But then on second thoughts the Ferengi are more comedy relief... no way like Tyber Zahn or the consortium. Ferengi compared to the Consortium is like saying the movie Oscar is the same as the Godfather. oh man no!:)

dont think that the Ferengi would make a good playable race. I think same about Cardassians, but at least in my sight they would make a good 3rd dominion avatar.

just my 2 cents :)

I think they deserve a bit more credibility than that. Remember the Magnificent Ferengi? One Ferengi throws a knife at a Jem'Hadar killing him, though I found that somewhat amusing in my own sick way. :woot:

Quark to Vorta Diplomat, "Hold on I'm not done yet. Then, you're going to tell your helmsman to set course for Dominion territory, warp 9."

If that's not Ferengi mafia I don't know what is.

Yeah, instead of building ships, Ferengi could buy them ! That would mean that they don't have a specific ship design like feds or klingons. Their ships could be all colours an forms and sizes. It would be something very different to play with, and hard to balance.

that's why it's like the Oscar style of the mafia. Dunno if many ppl here know of the movie. The comically inept mafioso

The Ferengi have a Military already, maybe not a large or advanced as the other races but their ships were on a similar level to the Galaxy when it was in it's prime.

Their habit of buying new tech rather than researching it would allow them to keep up with others.

no Ferengi please. Thye're just too comical. no way they would ever involve themselves in any war or conflict.
They would choose to profiteer from it, as they do right now in game. So i dont see the Ferengi being in any way a race worth including.

Borg attack? I don't see the Ferengi trying to profit of that!

How are they not worth including? They have Warships, they have a Military and they are fun to blow up.

I would like to see the Cardassians as a playable race, they have a big influnce in Star Trek and the alpha quadrant. I think there ships should be weak, but fast to build and not expensive. Seeing that they relly much on big fleets. And i think there is enough information about them to make it possible for them to be a playable race.

They were actually supposed to be the new threat to the Federation, which is why they seemed more warlike in "The Last Outpost." But, they ended up being a disaster. Futhermore, they had their woman's right movement late in evolution, so his could have completely fubared any military they had, that is if they had a real military to begin with.
