Whoa, you actually read my long ass post  ! Im actually shocked. Why they didnt overwhelm and win should be pretty obvious, it takes in the thousands of ships to properly take a well defended planet. Betazed being the sad exception, a peaceful non-violent people who let their defenses become antiquated, and got caught with their pants down (fleet was distracted, and comms were jammed). We know the other big fed Member planet to fall was Benzar and we know that it was first mentioned at being under attack and was mentioned as still under siege like 4 episodes later, and then we hear about it being liberated by romulans. War in space is also a 3 dimensional ordeal, branching out a taking a beachhead doesn't just expose you on 3 angles, but 5. TBH, though my real guess as to why the Dominion didnt swarm at that moment is probably poor leadership.

info from books is as reliable as info from the tv show itself.  many many times the shows contradict themselves so i wouldnt take what they say as necessarily accurate.  lets face it if youre outnumbered 20 to 1 in ships.......game over, and remember by all accounts jemhadar are considered some of the most ruthless and disciplined soldiers their are.  its not like it was 20 to 1 fighting the ferengi were you could pay half of them off. 

as for poor leadership that was clearly on the side of the peacenicks in starfleet.  they should have stopped the first fleet of dominion ships that came through.  but no, lets wait a while and see what happens cause we dont want to upset anyone.  "Can't we all just get along".  and of course starfleets usual crap about not making enough combat vessels when there is nothing going on.  remember the defiant program.  was relegated to backburner  because the borg became less of a threat.......WHAT!  what fat ass lumpkin sitting on a chair (with extra support rods) decided........."eh,  havent seen an borg lately.  lets pull back the defiant program.
