I was thinking that adding diff shield and weapon types would add strategy to the game

for example lets say the intrepid has type 1 weapons and type 1 shielding

the type 1 weapons would be extra powerful against type 2 but weak against type 3
the type 1 shields would be strong against type 2 and weak against type 3

lets say the defiant has type 2 weapons and shielding. Well it would be good to use the intrepid against the defiant
--in this case 1 on 1 the defiand would still win cause it is still more powerful but the intrepid would do more damage bc it is using type 1 weapons which is powerful against type 2 shielding

So when ur playing the game you would want to constantly spying to see what they are getting so you could counter it with a weapon and shileding type that is more powerful against the unit they are getting. (this would take away the strategy of just mass units which is not near stratigic)

- you would have to change ur strategy every time bc most likely people will get different units bc they will be trying to counter you.

-It will break down to spying and countering and that would be awesome ^_^

I dunno, i'd be pissed to lost a Defiant class to 3 Saber classes. Better off as it is now to me.

Sounds like Joshinzon's been playing Freelancer :D They have like different kinds of weapons (plasma, laser, pulse) which have their strengths and weaknesses against certain other types. Not sure if there'd be much point in here though, it'd mean a lot of work for something not exactly necessary.

It is an interesting concept, all the same.

I concurr with atlantis for the most part, except I think something like this would be worth it. Which gives me an idea, what about a civilian aspect of armada 2. What about civilian structures. It could bring in a whole new world of gameplay, civilian stations, increase of mercs. Dealing with the living conditions of your citizens. Increasing ship build/research build times. It could do alot for the gameplay. Civilian trade stations. They would have an AI that could build civilian stations on their own. U could also build civilian stations. Training centers. Population increase. Civilian specialized research. Over time being able to build new structures. It could bring a whole new world to FO.

Yes alot of work, with an all new aspect of MP to show for it. We're always looking at the military half of the story, why not look at the civilian half aswell. As for the borg, they could spread out and slowly begin building ajoining complexes eventualy forming a massive unimatrix.

It's an interesting idea. But I like Chemix's idea. You could built a center for people live, like a colony. Which would increase your crew. Then you could upgrade the center, by adding different things, like gardens, parks, more houses, hospitals.

ok i see what you guys mean but dont you ever think that armada 1, 2 and fo are all about how many units you have. What that does is people end up getting the descent class right away with out ever looking at there enemy. The first one to get the most descent or high level ships wins.

What if you had to constantly change ur strategy b/c ur enemy is doing the same.

It seems to be that i get the same units, at the same time every game. And while that can be fun it stays fun for only a few weeks. But that me, what do you guys think?

going back to my example let say the intrepid does 50% more damage to the defiant than another vessel with different weapon types.

im not sure how it would play out but lets say a defiant can take 3 intrepid right now with lets say it shileding down and armor down to 10

with this new idea added the defiant would be destroyed.

i dont know, it just a idea

Dude the entire reason I build the larger ships is to kill the smaller ones. This game would be seriously messed up if smaller ships could take out larger ships and be alot cheaper and stuff.

how would it be, if the ships would be more powerfull and with more shielding and stuff like that, but that u can only build a decent number of ships.. like the credit system.. that u can build, lets say, only 3 or 4 souveraign and galaxy type ships, and 6 or 7 akira class.. u know.. that u have to collect the right type of a fleet to get through it... that would add more strategy, and gameplay too... cause i always see whole fleets of warbirds or neghvars or spheres, u know..

and buildin a fleet of different types of ships, for different use, would do the same as his idea, i think... there would be a need of re-balancing the ships, too, but with not so much time for modding to get it..

Now I could go for something like that.
