Well.... I am an ancient member who fell off the radar long ago. And to be honest I was busy with life. So I figured.... why not come back and give me input?

Even though yes there is an abundance of Federation Class vessels, I was thinking of the fact that in the game Dominion Wars there have been some ideals that I haven't realized before. What I liked about Dominion Wars was that even though the game was limited, I loved the fact that you could utilize different enhancements across the fleet. So it got me thinking of something. A Tactical Cruiser that is just above the Excelsior II in tech tree. Now I cannot remember how the stats are.... so I am simply going to state its features.

Achilles Class Tactical Cruiser
Crew Compliment: 565
Dilithium Cost: 750 (approx)
Tritanium/Metal Cost: 465 (Approx)
Supply Cost: 50 (approx)
Construction Time: 189 seconds (approx)

Weapon Armament:
- 2x Pulsed Phaser Cannons (Medium Range)
- 2x Phaser Arrays (Short Range; Limited Arc; 0 to +/- 80 Degrees)
- 1x Quantum Torpedo Launcher

Special Abilities:

Phalanx Array:
Temporarily Disables the Phasers and decreases shield power to send a volley of low-yield quantum torpedoes from the Phalanx Array. Each torpedo does 40% damage of normal quantum torpedo and has bonus damage to smaller craft.
Effect lasts 3 seconds; Cooldown lasts 100 seconds

Balance Breaker:
Disables the standard armament of the ship to temporarily 'steal' the special ability of an enemy ship. Minimum of 15 seconds before stolen ability can be used and can only be used once. Standard Armament is restored once Stolen Ability is exhausted.
Abilities that cannot be stolen include Mixed Tech, Mode Changers (Such as the Norexean), Cloaking, Tractor Beam, or Crew Based Abilities such as the Tavara's ability to beam crew.
If the Balance Breaker is used there is also a 180 second cooldown before either ability could be used.

I want to hear your feedback.

Its a horrible ship. Flat and ugly in Dominion Wars and equally as horrible in Armada. The Avalon Class is basically its replacement and looks soooo much better.

Dunno man, The Achilles is one of my favorite ships in trek. Probably my favorite non canon design second to the Insignia.

Eximus class is my favorite noncanon ship.

ITT post your favourite non canon ship class. i'll go canaveral, that ship doesn't get enough love since it got nerfed.

i'm not a fan of the achilles either. you know how they make fridge magnets resembling starships, but it functions as a bottle opener. the achilles looks like it was already designed as a bottle opener.

I like the Achilles, but it looks like someone sat on an Intrepid. It also has one of the worst names you could pick, just under Titanic.

I don't like it either. It looks a bit strange. Mainly because of the "short" warp nacelles. I always thought that replacing the nacelles with Sovereign class warp nacelles would look much better.

Anyway here are the non-canon ship designs that I really like and therefore added these into my personal modification:

Nice list! I am not familiar with the Argonaut, but it looks sweet. Can't agree with you on the Nimrod or Eximus though, them's' ugly... :x

Wow I never realized how many people disliked the Achilles. I love it myself, but maybe it was because how awesome it was in that game that led to me liking its design.

I've seen the Achilles in other mods, and no I didn't like it. As for the proposed specs, you're asking for another large chassis to added to the Fedi's arsenal. I don't think that's a good idea, but maybe as an optional flagship for Risner.

As for the others...

Nimrod: No.
Argonaut: Looks like a better Achilles.
Century: Looks too much like the Canaveral.
Excalibur: Played it before. Romulans will laugh and say Starfleet needs to go on a diet.
Eximus: Looks like a fork. Excalibur needs to put it down.
Proteus: Love it.
Magellan: You could plant flowers with it. In the mod I used, the thing was tiny. It might look better if it was bigger, but there might be the problem of innie-outie jokes between the Magellan and Remore.

This is merely my ascetic opinion. I'd put them to a vote for the FO community.

LOL, Nimrod class.

I should state that my favority looking design of any starship just happens to be in the game already, it just has sucky stats and is basically useless but it looks great, the Teutoburg class. :)

On that list the only two I like are the Argonaut and of course the Eximus. Century just looks to similar to the Sovereign, Nimrod is just an Akira with extra set of Nacelles. I HATE the Excalibur class with a passion even more so than the Achilles. I think it has to do with the nacelles sticking straight out and making the ship look super flat. I much prefer having curving nacelles in particular downward which is probably why I like the Teutoburg.

The Proteus looks like a rip off of the Argonaut or vice versa depending on which one came first and the Magellan is just God awful. It looks like it has nacell diareah and is pooping them out. That has to be the fugliest starship I have seen yet. :o

Alright.... can I ask then what kind of roles are "open" in Fleet Ops? Because I personally am not an expert at Identifying counter roles in ships.

i don't think they want to fill the fed fleet with dozens of ships.

but your best bet when thinking "should this new ship be in fleetops" is to ask the question:
"does it do the same thing as another ship".

so fast pulse armed ship, probably no, that's a defiant already.

try think of a new role that doesn't currently exist. fleetops ships (for all races) tend to have unique (or close) roles.

try not to have your ship be a mishmash of things.

your suggestion in the first post, if all the dps is split evenly 3 ways between the 3 types of weapons, then your ship is very generalist. which isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but it isn't going to have a unique role of any sort. there'd always be another ship better suited for any scenario. not really interesting.

Alright.... so I'll think of something better then.
