I was wondering since this FO changes a lot fo the game play dynamics would you be willing to implement the A2 new physics mod as well to give the ships a more real feel? It's on armada2files.com and it's worth a look at. Just curious.

We already improved the pathing and navigation of all vessels shortly after the v3 pr release -  they will now behave more like in shows and fit much better to their actual mass - or speed in case of a destroyer or scout :)
you will also widness some scripted pathing for fighters for example. a vid will come in the next news post. We are very proud of a complete new pathfinding system that will guide your vessels much more effectively to their targets, even if the target lies behind asteroids, bases and such

The very basic movement system of armada2 can not be touched without deeper development. we have plans for more cinematic moves and attack animations, but that needs to be tested out how good that combines with the aspects of a rts game. Something for the far far future.

SOunds great to me. Have you guys ever thought of using a different engine or maybe building your own game from scratch?

woa woa woa woa woa....do u mean...building yur own GAME? Or just rebuilding the engine?

i would guess building their own engine, but building your own engine is no small task and takes years if its not a team... i'd suspect they will just carry on adding code to the loader to keep making it more advanced whilst riding on Armada2.exe back... mainly because just writing the graphic part would take Doca years... personally i cant ever see Flops running on its own withotu Armada2.exe because its tide into it so much.

Even though the hint has been dropped I'd still like to see what's upcoming for these guys. I love what they've done with the A2 engine and I could see something like this working in a completely 3D environment like say homeworld but better graphicly. I've been watching this MOD for a while and it's the most realistic Trek RTS I've seen so far.

i think optec commented on working with a different game engine in a future project, NOT to build one from scratch. i only do have this one life :P
we have planned to look into some newer games and their modding capabilities after the release of v3 to see if they are in any way suitable for a future version of fleet operations.

ever thought of seeing what you can do with the crummy legacy engine?

at least it has broken armada code you could try and revive with your loader?

i was just saying because it shares code with armada so all your classlabel stuff could prob easily be ported...

if not what other engines do you have in mind, im sure you have already started having a lil poke around just to get an idea ;)
