Hey guys, after playing Star Trek Online for a while now I thought of something that could boost the oh so weak warbird. What if there was a researchable special that would fire a high yield plasma torpedo? This torpedo would do increased damage to sheilds and if it hit the hull the ship would get extremely damaged. I guess you could say its basicaly the negh var special with a little retexture and damage changes.
What do you guys think? Just for fun I have a plasma torp in my intro that does a lot of damage to a sovereign

Which makes it a copy of another warship in FO.
The warbirds will become better in future releases, so I won't give a few bucks for it having a "plasma torpedo overload / Weapon overload - copy"...

I would be happy if it got a def. or off. boost!! I could really care either way, because I play Romulans oh so very little. :-p

As I said, balancing isn't done yet. The devs are working hard to deliver good news with every single update, and they know that the warbirds are not worth their hurting costs at the moment, so they WILL get a boost and/or some nice passives... copying a special weapon from the klingons is just not of help due to the desire for uniqueness of the factions and their ships

Sadly, I don't think a big plasma torpedo would fit the Romulan style, as most of their weapons focus on debuffing the enemy. And as it's been said, it's basically a klingon weapon and would be redundant.

I disagree. I think sneaking up, decloaking, and letting loose a single massive bolt is very in character for the Romulans. I'd even suggest making the plasma bolt work like a reverse chain reaction pulsar from stock A1. Let the plasma bolt bounce to another ship or two, loosing power along the way. I think such a warbird would work in the spirit of the ones in the original series

Optec has said that he is moving the romulans from becoming a first strike race to one that controls the enemy. So it is not in keeping with the developer's views of how the Romulans should be. The vector torpedo works similar to the chain reaction pulsar, although I believe the damage values stay the same.
I don't disagree with the assessment on the romulans, but the devs are moving them away from that type of play. Besides, the Norexan has a very nice first strike weapon already. Copying the neghvar doesn't seem the right way to go about giving the romies a new power.

i think the big d should have a defense boost, its current defense special could be increased in power a bit. making it a super duper damage soak for a short time. maybe give it increased damage against large ships, like a blow for blow heavy hitter, but lose power against small ships when the special is active.

Yeah, it was nice in 3.0.7 - but the decrease sure hit it hard for such a large an expensive ship

The special i'd like to have most on a warbird is a special hard cloak, which renders the ship uncloakable (by any tachyon-scan, graviton ping or whatever) for 10 sec.
@dircome (down): Right! Un-Uncloacable.

Maybe it could be an area of effect weopon that does increased damage to small ships. It would make sense as the warbird can be an early game unit with the new rommulan tech tree.

Weee!!! Quoting my own posts!
We haven't seen that kind of weapon from the Romulans since kirk's day, and the romulans seem to be headed away from too many direct damage specials (of which they have plenty currently). I'd still like to see stealth field get beefed up some, but maybe they have other things planned for the Big D and other warbirds.

what about the romulan old technology? their shield inversion beam - absorb enemy shields into your own. ?

I really think that one would be way to powerful, as it made the D'deridex basically invincible while it sucked the life out of other ships. And I don't think we ever figured out how one steals another ship's shields.
