A Few Ideas, V4 Maybe

I was just playing fo a bit ago and thought about a few things that might be cool.

what do you guys think about adding HQ starbases to the skirmish mode? and yes they would serve a purpose. something along the lines of: if the HQ is destroyed the player who just lost one is given a broad penalty, like 20% reduction of everything: movement, construction, weapons, resource production, recruitment, ect. (maybe the empire and avatar would decide how much is taken off). and just to give it a positive thing, you can build upgrades to it that also give bonuses to certain areas, such as, building, resource gathering, supplies, ect. (and this is also race/avatar specific).

and point 2.
we give flagships to each player. i was thinking that the flagship could be almost the same as the regular ship class with a slight difference, like one avatar might have stronger shields, or weapons, or further range. they would have a battle plan type thing also (like in C&C generals), when you lose your flagship you lose that too. and every avatar has a different flagship, like one federation avatar has Picards Enterprise E, or even F. while the other has... oh, i don't know... um... any ideas?

The flagship was already discussed a couple of times. About that base, I dont like to have 20% off of everything, it would be better if it would just simply kill you :mellow:

I like the HQ-base idea. I think it could add an interesting strategic aspect to the game and finally you'll have something to aim at if your enemy hides his last ships cloaked... :hmmm:
But indeed: it should kill you if you lose it. B)

Could be added as a game mode, like the regicide mode in AOE II, have one strong base and so does the other player kill this thing and you win. Sounds like a good idea.

Yes, but only as a game mode. I want to be able to turn it off if I don't want it.

In my opinion it would be fair to lose the game if your HQ is destroyed.
And if you've got three fleets left, why not protect your HQ until you have enough reinforcements or whatever you're waiting for until you take on your enemy.
That's what I thought of when I was writing about that stategic aspect. If you have a HQ, you have to protect it. If you lose it, you are in serious trouble, for example no new construction-ships an no further reinforcements or even supplies so those ships left just run out of goods.

And if you insist on an option to turn that off, I'm quite sure they'll do it that way.
I just like the idea.

Concerning the idea of giving flag-ships to each player:
again why not? But as there will be avatars I think I would be happy without them too. (I think there already is a thread dealing with that idea. But I don't know where it was.. and when..)

PS: I am pretty sure that you would be able to protect your HQ with three fleets, Baron, wouldn't you? ;)

Heh please dont be a smartarse with me. The dominion are getting a super artillery in v3, which has an incredible range and does extreme damage. Lets say one or two of these artileries showed up just to kick that stations arse and u can have 10 groups of short, medium, large range ships protecting it.
Also if such a station existed feet to fleet battles would most prolly be gone, all a player would do is create a number of torpedo ships + artillery and go straight for the base, not even caring about the opponents ships.

There is also the canon issue, I mean lets say that there are 5 strong fed fleets protecting DS9 from the dominion and the dominion suddenly destroy DS9. Would the 5 fleets simply surender even if they outnumbered the dominion 10:1? ;)

I believe thats basically what the regicide game mode was.
