Heya peeps. Just thought i'd give my two cents worth with a few ideas. As always with me, there are more "Would this be possible?" then "Please do this", as I know the A2 engine can really limit modding in some aspects:

Map BMP's: At the moment, if you have an odd screen resolution (like mine) and are making maps, you have to switch to 800x600 before you save the map, so that it created the minimap pic correctly. I was wondering if it would be possible for the program to be made to automatically take into account the screen resolution when taking the pic, so you don't have to keep changing it to and from.

Warp Sound: I always noticed that the "Warp Route" on the Starfleet Command uses the old fluidic gate/wormhole sound effect. Would it be possible for this to be changed to the old AII warp-in effect? Then it would seem more like the ships were arriving by warp. I did have a shot at this myself with a file transfer and some quick and dirty ODF editing, but I had no luck (it just ended up silent for me).

Transwarp Icon: At the moment, when a transwarp gate is used, the minimap shows a wormhole sprite at the two points. I thought it might look cool if it used a different icon instead (perhaps one like the wormhole one, except with the blue changed to green). While i know it doesen't add much, i just really like the idea.

So yeah, comments welcome people!

Map BMPs is on todo already. this is really, really annoying ;) I'm looking for a solution for that but still, it is an armada bug that has a workaround so it is low priority.

Bloody Maddoc had to screw up that, too...

Anyway, while we're on the subject of things to consider, how about command codes?  In ST2:TWOK (Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan) Kirk used command codes to disable the captured Reliant.  This seems realistic, and it's a logical precaution to take in case one of your ships gets captured.  Would a concept like this have any possibility in FO as either a general ability or maybe even a special weapon?

you mean a special weapon that allows you to instantly destroy a ship stolen from you? seems a little to unbalancing to me, but i could be wrong. or like a command to lower a ship's shields and take weapons offline?

A command that basically lowers shields and powers down weapons and engines, like Kirk did to the Reliant.

wait, couldn't someone just change the command codes after capturing a ship?

You would probably need to know the original codes to change them. kinda like when you have to change your password on the computer. tis a nice idea, but i think a bit unpractical in game play. But if you were to integrate it into the game i would say only have high command ships be able to do it, and only once per ship. i base this off Kirks rank i think he was a adm in ST1 which means that he could have known more about the ships codes then other captains. yes?

Maybe it could be a special ability for an avatar ship...

ooooo, the ship could have faster transporters as well, like a boarding ship that offensively takes ships and make them immune to code attack and also defends by blowing up ships that are taken. rommulan and borg ships i think would have them, its not really a Fed way.

It would have to be expensive to be that powerful...

Just on that Warp-In note, is it possible to have the effect not form on the station but somewhere off to the side in space, oh and not go up then settle in formation? It'll really look like they warped in. :D

I'm not sure if it's possible without making the space that the station itself takes up much larger.

Can always use a jumpgate doppelgänger?

Yeah, but it would look really silly if the space it came out from was also occupied by your starbase...
