Slight flaw in the Romulan tech tree

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

I hear that.  95% of what we ever saw in Canon were D'Deridex's so it goes to stand that Battleships are what they choose to put front.  As we are finding out though, battleships alone can be stopped.  This should cause the Rommie players to NEED destroyers - a nice fact for having a fun game :)

Yeah, my new idea right now is to try 1 cehalar, 4 Norexans, and instead of building the upgrade facility build the staryard and start amassing at least 8 generix support, then go back to building Norexans.  After my game with goo, I remembered how important those support ships are for healing my battleships.  That will help a lot against bomber type vessels that would end up countering my Norexans.

Sounds like a solid strat to me :)

EDIT: though, what are you going to do between the Cehlaer and the Norexans... seeing as the Tal'Shiar will require a Staryard to be built first. More Cehlaers?

No, this was just a thought before the patch to counter susas and other bomber type vessels.  After the patch, we'll have to tech up to norexans the old fashioned way.  I think cehalars are too slow and not quite powerful enough.  Especially with interceptor units eating its long-ranged ass.

Sadly, you are probably right. Still, I bet that a few Cehlaers plus a few turrets could give you a good defense force in the next patch... after which you can spring the Shrikes and those big warbirds for the kill >:D

You might be able to pull turtling off with Cehlars and turrets for a bit.  It takes about 3 Romulan turrets to equal one Klingon one, but you can cover more area.  But you need the Staryard to build turrets...

Oh well.  Teching up fast isn't too bad with Romulans.  Especially in team games.  I say enjoy building battleships early while we still can. :sweatdrop:

:D
Forgot about turrets needing the Staryard... :p

Guess you could always go straight from Shrikes to Warbirds... a bit expensive to go in reverse though.

Yeah.  I'm already working on a build for post patch.  Shrikes --> Generix Support --> Norexans.  Pretty much what we do now with Mijural, but I'm taking a look at how fast you can tech up compared to how many vessels you need to stay alive till then.  Of course, the patch will probably change the cost on everything, making it all moot. :whistling:

Just one suggestion. I don't want the Staryard as necessary requirement for buildingthe warbird-yard, but one could include an additional developement like "aquire warbird blueprints" in the starbase or research-labs to make the warbirds available later ingame. Alternatively a developement "warbird production speedup" which must be researched first to make producing warbirds viable.

Well, the way it's going to work out, you could still build early cehlars and even D'deridexes, by building the warbird yard and then the upgrade facility.  I don't think D'deridexes will be a problem because the upgrade facility is a little more expensive, and the Big D is using torpedoes, so it will lose some dps in the early phases.  It's also slow as molasass compared to the norexan.

Building D'deridexes early tested well in the ai games I've played, but I don't think it will translate the same as the norexan did in multiplayer.  Maybe Optec can try it out to double check, but I think he'll come to the same conclusion.  So you can still make some warbirds, even THE signiture warbird, early on if you want to! :whistling:

Eresis might do well actually - especially after the patch when they get better armament. Even though they have torps, they have a high speed :)

hhmmm...  if they're going to have high speed and plus 3 to offense, what would be the point of picking mijural? :(  I suppose I should ask how high a speed first. :innocent:

Oh, no, I just meant their current high speed (fast as a Mijurnal Norexan ain't she?) :)

As per weaponry, I meant the Radiation Array is getting "better" :)

I suppose you'd need a tal'shiar facility anyway to get its special, so I'm ok now.  I was really worried about Erisis spams for a second there. :sweatdrop:
