Romulan Ships - Balance Issues
You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

Well, the D'deredix is quite powerful: but hey, the Norexans do a good job of covering till you can build those old powerful behemoths

nooo, don't take away the griffin! it's just too sweet
i reckon the rommies as cool as is, after all, the game is all about deception with them. but hey, still getting the hang of fleet ops.

Yes, I believe I am of the same opinion as you Androsynth. With the inclusion of "faster initial fire" the Romulans have in my opinion truly become unique. Now they absolutely must rely on subterfuge and quick strikes--which makes them extremely fun to play. The only thing I have a bone to pick with is the Intelligence Center. Even on Gamespeed two, the Officer rank ability that enables you to spy on all enemy forces for 800 special energy lasts only about 1-2 seconds... which makes it nearly impossible to tell what has happened and where.

i took a closer look at the romulans yesterday, and everything seems to be alright. however they will get some techtree and unit changes in the closer feature either way, including a new stealth-based unit. Cloak Detection is queued for redo, too

I disagree with the possiblity that the Romulans are weak in any way. I play exclusively as them, and can beat a pair of merciless AI with ease (tho not borg, they are truly evil in that regard
). I use Helev, so I get griffins instead of the, as i see it, useless shrike class. With the new upgrades to the griffins, they have become something comparable to at least an akira when combined with a fleet of rhienns, leevhals, and support refits. They give the Romulans enough punch during any part of the game to more then make up for the costs, and to buy some time before you begin to really build any of the warbirds, altho I rarely do. Medium/small ships are much easier to work with, seeing as they have speed, combined firepower, and a mass of special abilities that can tear apart AI or human fleets that are not prepared for a brutal quick strike at multiple angles.

Prowess against AI is by no means a measure of how balanced a race is on multiplayer.

Before I had internet problems, I played exclusively online

I Agree that the Great play aginst the AI does not make a race unbalanced. Because the AI does not "think " unlogically. Because many times I have Broken my AI Opponents forces down to a Constructor ship, and a smattering of other stations. I pulled back and decomissioned my entire fleet , and just sat at my base the AI did nothing. No rebuilding of Facilities , or yards, and no defenses were built up .Even after two hours the AI just sat there. A Human player would have regrouped his or her defenses and clawed his or her way back to winning with me just sitthing there with no offensive ships , no shipyards , no mining facilities just a single Starbase, and me decomissioning all of my mining ships in the only yard I had captured.Unleash Mayhem wrote:Prowess against AI is by no means a measure of how balanced a race is on multiplayer.

more i use the support refit on generix the more i discover how invincible you can be with just a fleet of them, shield recharge is enough for them to take out any fleet larger and/or stronger than them, also...try dropping mines by your enemies resource moons....game over

i was under the impression that the norexans were the replacement ships for the dderidex class. yet i took two fleets out one made entirely of norexans and the other made entirely of dderidex warbirds. the warbirds lasted waaaaaaaay longer and i swept through more quickly with them as well.

they are really tough. i suggest nerfing them a little by increasing their shield repairing special energy consumption.

@ Nathanj: the weapons on a Norexan are not designed for the same tasks as for the D'deridex. You can also compare the offensive, defensive, and system values (as well as speed etc) and you'll find you can't compare the two based on sheer brute weapon strength.

Nah leave the warbirds alone, their shields are tough, but once they are down, even a destroyer can take it out.

Maybe the Romulans should get a second defense building. Like the big one from the Dominion.
