Everybody picks on poor Mal! :crybaby:

I don't remember if we've ever played together, snapshot, but that sounds like something I would do.  Usually it's 3 Bortas decloaking in the middle of your fleet with 3 qaw'duj at the edge of the storm using polaron field to shut down your engines. >:D

This is exactly how it happened. I had three Bortas in his base and after fired the ion storm, I used Moqbar station. I lost all three ships, but his damage was greater. And I did it twice !

hehe i did same thing in FFA  :D
massive fed/romulan fleet was approaching my base and i didn't had much ships to defend it but i manage to move my 3 Bortas in there way and fired ion storm  :D

then it was easy for my small fleet to finish any survivors   >:D  and that was in 3.0.7 so one cloaked Talon-Refit could end that game for me...   :innocent:
but instead it was great victory for the Empire

guys i feel like your getting a totally wrong picture of me, am not a noob, and im not new to fleet ops, i dont stack my whole fleet up behind a turret defense and wait for a cloak attack, and if i did, id at least have cloak sensors

in this game, it was a 4v4 on some map, and i had quickly expanded to 3 moons, and this was about mid game, and i had a pretty good fleet to protect, at this point all 4 of us were doing very well, and pressuring them, and i thought we had the game won if we had continued,

so in retrospect, i think the turning point was the attack on a fed station, which had good defense, turrets ships, and oh, here come a fleet of decloaking kligon, so we turned back, and regrouped at my thrid mining, i belive that was the furthest point out for us, so we figured we would be attacked there

now we had been getting out ships into position, as we knew that that was where they would most likely attack, and we needed to beat them back at all costs, well a little before this my freind to my right, got hit by a sphere or somthing, and his mining was going out, and he pretty much was crippled but i think the spheres bugged out, and he still sent his fleet up to help,

so the battle, of the 3rd mining of ray 320 began (lol) it actually was a very good battle, that enemy fed had a nice fleet, and they hit hard, we repelled them at first, and stood our ground, but then kligons decloaked off our port bow, however all ships were unsecsefull at having engineers who could find a seemingly imposible way, to use the quantum phase pulse emitters located on the deflector array, to create a pulse which would fuse with the dilithium in the miners in the area to help us win

so we still held our ground, a few reinforcments, and the battle was lost, at this point i think i had one ships left from battle and got him bugged out, my 3 shipyards were on overdrive, and warp in, and i had a small fleet of akiras the 10-14 i mentioned

now this is where the ion strom in question comes into play, my freind on the left was all but dead, so i told my allies to send all ships to my 2nd mining to make a final stand, so my akiras get there, and my allies ships are about to rendevous when boom, and a big blast comes

i had no idea what was happenong, i didnt do it!! lol

anyway, i had no idea what was happening, so i dial up my fleet, ambasador special on, akiras special on, so thats like and extra 50 percent hull repair and 200 precent shield somthing like that, and there sheild had not gone down yet, i tell them to get the heck out of there, as i see my mining ships go down, and my mining stations sheilds die, and then my akiras start to die

so now, out of my nice big fleet of like 14 akiras and 4 warp ins who had just arived, i had lost all mining ships, and i had 3 akiras left, who all had about 1/4 sheilds and less hull, and a galaxy, who had more like, almost no hull and a little bit of shields, and oh boy here comes the enemy, who start firing on me,  down goes akira #1, oh and here comes my freindlys, which got massacred without my once nice fleet of akiras so soak up some phasers,

so basically, it was a i just get my ships there, to rendevous to head out to battle, as there fleet was just above my mining, and just as they pull in, they get blown to bits, which despite there special, which to me shouda done more, and there moving away, they got blown to bits

so thats the full story, and off course, with me not having any fleet, and my allies last ships pretty much having just gone into a black hole, as it was one freindly fleet then another, as they did not know my fleet ha just been destoryed, so they got killed, and we lost

and that was it,

had that borta not happend, honeslty idk what woulda happend, i think we coulda pushed them back, however im not sure if we coulda won over all

Hey that's a great recount! :D

I don't think you're a noob, ray.  I promise , but I don't think you are really looking at the issue from a standpoint of practicality.

The Bortas is really a stale-mate breaker.

The Bortas is too late in the Klingon Tech-tree and too expensive to make this a "rush" to Bortas.  They are like the Hyperspace artillery, the Intelligence Center, the Cube + Diamond (or soon-to-be Command Cube :borg:), or the relentless spam of the Fedrats.  They are all meant to be ways of ending a game.

They are MEANT to be astonishingly powerful in order to break up a deadlock in the game.  To be honest with you, I think that the Bortas is one of the easier Super Weapons to counter.  You can scout and watch their base to see what they're building throughout the game.  When you see the Imperial Research station being built, you can pretty likely guess they are gonna research some Bortas Love.  Thus you can keep a fast eye on that decloaking ping.  Bortas are also super slow and frail.

Hyperspace Artilleries are a pretty hard one to counter if you ask me.  Against a Puretech you can find yourself on the receiving end of two at once and that will destroy or cripple nearly an entire fleet of even powerful ships.  It is longer than artillery range and not avoidable unless you have your ships selected and already moving when it starts to count.

So no, it's not because you're a noob or anything, it's just there because Klingons don't have good support ships and have a real hard time late game when large aoe weapons and specials can kind of put them out of business and make attacking difficult.  Sensor Blackout, Engine Overload, Remoore's ECM, C-17's Weapon-slower-upper thing, mass V-13's Excessive strike ... Big D's Stealth Field along with many others ... the Klingons have Field of Fire (martok only) and Polaron field (which only lasts 5 seconds and his hard to micro multiple times).

There is no doubt that it is SUPER powerful, but keep in mind that while a Klingon is spending all that time and tech on getting there, it's going to be SUPER hard for them to produce enough ships to fight with.  Especially with the new supply system, Klingons MUST attack to have supply.  I really think that it's not overpowered given how SUPREMELY difficult it is to use it effectively.  And even then, you are still sacrificing those ships ...
