K i was doing multiplayer
and i had 15 akiras, plus some intrepids and warp in ships,
i had reserach the sheild upgrades, so that means a 16 percent shield upgrade and akiras had specuial reseched which increased hull repair and sheild by alot
so a borta or two, idk, ion storms me, my intrepids gone soond, 3 warp ins gone, i tried to get fleet out, used my akira special, and lost 11 akiras, pretty quickly
i had 6 ships remaining, a galaxy at ewdge of storm, and ambaador, and then 4 akiras,
all of their sheilds were down
and all of there hulls were very low, and they all had subsytems out,
seriously an ion storm does this?
oh and i forgot 4 mining ships lost, and sheilds out on both mining stations

dont forget my 2 borg interceptors, and 1/3 of a sphere.
i dont think it was over powered, you just sat there and did nothing, but sit in it for its entire duration. i at least tried to move away, but my interceports wanted to go back in (for whatever reason)

hmm i fail to see how the last ship in the klingon tech tree is overpowered do you realize how much it costs to get one of those.

from the sounds of the damage caused it was probably several bortas.
ion storm is supposed to be really powerful, the bortas is a late game ship, and has a build limit of 3. plus they have to get the bortas to your location to fire. and using ion storm near a large enough group of ships/stations to justify the resources and micro on them will usually result in the bortas taking a lot of fire from the dying enemies.
i personally like the bortas ion storm as it is. its not easy to spam the bortas out, it takes effort, such effort deserves reward. it takes all three to nuke a base. i also believe that the cloak requires a research as well? correct me if it can cloak straight out of the yard.
i also believe that as a late game advanced tech ship it has a large resource cost. if your opponent is spending money on bortas and research on its systems, then they are building less ships, your ships should take the advantage to hurt him.

i did try to move them out and i got a few out, but it seems a little overpowerd to take out 10 akiras, with both sheild upgrades reserch while theyre special is on

The BortaS is the closest thing to a Supership in the game, its gonna pack a punch. Plus, it's an Ion Storm...

i suffered this once, i then said to myself
"If you keep every single ship you have in one HUGE glob, you deserve to loose them".
easy counter it to set movment autonomy to medium and kit the bugger or the best you can. If you see one, kill it first with long range ships in multiple groups on a constant move, spread out.
The 3.1.0 patch allows us to group more ships making Ion Storm more potent from a grouping point of view. Just dont groups so much in one area.

Also, it's important to scout someone's base so you can see what they're making!
If there's a whole bunch of support stations and and imperial yard, it's a good bet someone is making 3 bortas'.  You can even see them being built.  They you can say to yourself, "Hmmm...they're making powerful AoE attack ships.  I wonder if that's significant to me somehow..." and act accordingly.

Aye.  I'm afraid that avoiding the Bortas Ion Storm-Swarm is totally preventable.  It's kind of like when your opponent fields a Cube finally, or gets that MASSIVE fleet of V-13's, or blah blah blah ... it's kind of your job to keep track of what's going on.

New players online tend not to be very aggressive and it's easy to get into a lull where people sit behind turrets with huge fleets. The only way to break that lull is with a great big BOOM. Bortas are PAINFUL to try and tech towards and they are certainly not something you can get quickly. If your opponent ends up going there you should have oodles of time to stop them. Especially if you are Feds.

Not trying to sound like an Elitist or anything (god forbid), but just because your gameplay style ended with someone countering your massive glob of Fedrat starships doesn't mean it's broken. The same thing would have happened if a Puretech Dominion Player hit you with 2 Hyperspace Artilleries. In fact it would have been worse because if you're at a standstill you really CAN'T get away from it.

Now if your Klingon Opponent had 3 Bortas and used the Moqbar Station ... well you're just screwed. It's what the Fed-rats get for sitting on their butts like the cowardly pa'tagh they are
.

And Mal's a tit.

Totally agree, even on the tits thing, i think it was mal who used Ion Storm on my fleet of Akiras, lucky for me i had them devided into groups and spread them out. (even if i did loose in the end).
