Feds early game

I think the feds are the weakest race early in the game ATM. Until you get the akira class, the other ships are very very weak. The sabre goes down in like 2 seconds against any ship, the monsoon fairs a little better but the short range of its weapons make it almost useless in terms of offensive power and the Intrepid does good damage and last a bit more that the first 2 but it too is short ranged :(

Most of the other races have long or medium ranged early-game ships, except the klingons who make do for this in terms of damage. The fed ships damage is crappy at best until you get the Intrepid. My suggestion is to give the Intrepid at least medium range weapons, to have a better chance of surviving borg or dominion early game rushes.

The Feds are, no question about it, hands down, no argumentation possible, absolutely no other opinion allowed, THE most powerful faction during patch 3.07.

Incidentally, the Feds are getting a redo in a few patches from now :)

i have to agree with dominus; the feds are pretty much strong in every part of the game, ESPECIALLY in early-game, because lol Warp-in and reduced construction time for sabers with mayson.
also:try to tech up to the great yard pretty fast, build exelsiorII, they are pretty much the strongest mid-game unit in the game..

Not to mention that fed ships also have some of the most damaging abilities.

Plasma Coil for the Norway
Engine Overload for the Soverign
Sensor Blackout for the Canaveral
Warp In (Duh)
Shield Recharge for the Descent
ACS torpedo for the Excelsior MKII
And not to mention one of the most powerful defence platforms in the game... period

the first and last are available almost right from the start and can really be a cause for great destruction.

The Sovvys ability will rip most destroyers anew one and Plasma Coil does the same.

Guys let me handle this one,

I understand what your saying, and i one time i to belived the same way, that the feds suck, but theres a few things that i think will help you

#1 use support ships, and choose admiral mayson, this gives you norway, and canaveral, paticularly focus on the plasma coil because when used in early game it does lots of damage against small ships (it did get a decrease in power tho, so it kinda sucks now) for cavaeral, sensor blackout pretty much means the enemy isnt going to shoot you for a amount of time,

my suggestion is to build norways canaverals, and akiras, and reaserch the special for akira, it really helps,

also get your warpin asap, these can devestae the enemy, now there is a build order that i can explain later, but for now hopefully that will help you

WEAK?!?!?

In Starcraft, the zergling is possibly the weakest unit in the game. Still, a "zergling rush" is one of the most feared sights when playing Starcraft.

Similarly, a Saber is not a strong unit, BUT it's cheap and it has long range. You put ten together with a couple of support ships, and they behave as Attila's horse.

Federation early game is the strongest hands down. You get packs of Sabers and you get Warp in. Gamble a couple of Galaxies or go for a Descent, and you're the biggest fish in the pond. A Fed player with a cool head has very high chances of winning a Multiplayer game.

Damn those... Pta' FedRats. :)

Allright, it seems like my post was miss interpreted. I've NEVER said the feds are weak as a whole, ONLY that they are weaker than the rest of the races until they get to tier 2 and 3.

The canaveral's abilities are NOT available early in the game(best case scenario you'll have them in about 5 or 6 minutes or more).

The much praised plasma coil is utterly useless IMO. I've just played a skirmish feds vs dominion and I had like 8 norways and they barely lowered the shields of a V-13 with the plasma coils.

The saber may be fast but it deals little damage, and you have to keep them moving all the time. And the warp-in is very good against all races but the dominion. One bug will insta kill excelsiors, steamrunners and ambassadors, 2 will blow a descent to bits, using ramming that is.

All I was asking was that the Intrepid should get medium weapons range, as it's only role now is that of launching platform for the tricobalt torp.

But this is just my opinion :)

The Norway's Plasma coil is designed to operate on destroyers, not battleships.

well, they don't seem to be doing a lot of damage to them either. Much more damaging is the cascade effect on the dominion support destroyer

The Plasma Coil is useless, it does less damage than 1 shot from a Rank1 Saber.

Tyler, it does Damage over time, the initial hit in shields is damage done in the first second, it increases.

No-one misinterpreted you firewarrior, it's just that Fed early game IS the best. Just ask for a game with anyone from this thread, including me, and you'll see what we mean.

Let me guess, firewarrior.

You are one of those Fed players that don't micromanage the ships. May be you even set them on "hunt and destroy"?  :whistling:

not exactly. I do micromanage, but when I play against the dominion, the ramming stuff makes the game very hard because many early game fed ships have short ranged weapons. and the sabres don't do enough damage to stop them in time. If they go for your mining and/or constructors, you're pretty much screwed. But if you manage to get past this and gain access to the akira and canaveral, the game becomes much more winnable

That's more dominion exploitation than federation weakness. Ramming ain't the only problem there either.
