i just played a game, was the "right" feds (without turrets)  got a Phalanx.  ranked it up, vetted it up,  did the same with a sovereign.

Phalanx:  Off. 67  Def. 102  sys  28
Sovereign: Off. 52  Def. 97    sys  28

i put some distance between them, ordered them both to force fire on one another.

they closed to weapons range, and who do YOU think won in this shoot off?

if you think it would be the one with the higher stats,  you (and I) would be WRONG.

whats up with that????

It could be that the sovereigns elite special -30% damage from non officer units applied even though the other ship was a officer rank...dunno, thats the only thing that comes to mind.

The Phalanx relies on pulse weaponry, which does reduced damage to battleships.  The same may be true of the Magnan (sp?) Array, but I'm not sure.  I hardly ever play with that avatar.

i hardly play with the avatar, im not sure if the Phalanx has torpedos?

if it doenst then theres is your answer.

Dont forget the Stats aren't the attack/defence values. There just a general idea of what the ship is capable of.

Look at the Decent. It has a small rather pathectic phaser, but a double quantum launcher.

Iv seen that hit all torpedos and it does epic damage, but its offence is only 37 or something.

I think the numbers are taken off what kind of weapons, how many, can they miss (torps) and how ofter, and is the torpedo launcher the primary or secondary weapons.

yes. the Phalanx Class deals area damage and it has strong pulse weaponry. Therefore the Sovereign as a single-target torpedo damage dealer has a better chance against her. check the time a phalany needs to toast 3 sabers and the time the sovy has to spent on that job :)

Though this is contradictory... I beleive that the Phalanx needs a boost.... because I hate it when stats lie...

The stats don't lie... there is more to the Offensive Value than muscle alone.

yep, the offensive value reduces all combat capabilities into a single value, to make it easier to compare ships.

For example, a modern machine gun would have an offensive value above a katana sword, however, in meele combat, its better to have a katana at hand (given you know how to use it of course. yea its maybe not the best example, but you get the message :D ) Fleet Operations has many different combat situations (with a hand full of new profiles introduced in the next patch thats coming soon), so the "more powerful vessel" will not always win. it would be quite boring if it would be that way ^-^

Why would a yankee use an Euro gun?

Stick to your Colts and Smith & Wessons.  :P

And it's "faux pas".

Could we please get back to the subject at hand?

yes.  HERE IS A THOUGHT...

can the weapon stats have SUB catagories.  phaser ratting, photon ratting, pulse phaser ratting, disruptor ratting.

because if the current stat is a shot in the dark or an aproxamation,  lets get to specifics.  no more of this false advertising weapon stats

No.

It would beat the purpose of having a single value to compare ships. And I for one wouldn't like a 45 lines tooltip choked with data, most of it useless.
