You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

I recently posted this in the phalanx thread. Im not a fed player so excuse the mistake :)

I was playing as feds from "random" race selection and found the canaveral class was easily able to disable weapons on all ships in range.

It was good for me as i was able to wipe out an entire fleet of 12 Kvorts with a warp in of 1 neb+2 excelsiors, and a couple of sabres (of course and a canaveral). (the full klingon fleet was the kvorts and a couple of taqroja bombers). they just stopped firing even while nose t nose with my ships.

Is this properly balanced? I know we have a discussion about norway spams, but it seems 75% reduction for 25 secs is quite a bit - especially against kvorts which themselves are delayed shooters.

This was early in game to boot. I teched up to get the warp in and researched the canaveral as i wanted to try it.

not sure if this is balanced, so I wanted your feedback as I dont play feds that often (yet to be able to win as a noob with this got my attention).

That's why you don't bunch up your ships and use cloaked K'vorts to snipe Canaverals with shield breaking torpedoes

he did use those shield breakers.... tried to use them against my excelsior... I ran a tachyon scan to reveal his fleet.

Don't you need to full upgrade the Canaveral to get it? Wouldn't the research count toward balance?

i dunno. that's why im asking for everyone's opinion. after all research cost is relevant then, as well as time taken to research.

since this was early-midgame there doesnt seem to be muchado with the research or costs. if memory serves it cost me about 200+ dil and about 400+ tri.... if memory serves.

I was jsut playing around and wanted to seeif it was any use... guess it was... one ship for his fleet. lol.

I think the cost of the second upgrade is around 600-700 tri

Yeah, Norways plus Canaverals are very powerful. Don't know if Canaverals should be toned down or not though, it depends on how well you can micro them. For how long the special lasts though (as compared to, as mentioned previously, the Griffin) it is very good.  :D

I don't know if they need to be toned downed, I never saw them as worth the resources you built them with.

Canaveral is awe-inspiring if you're good at micro.  If not, it's lackluster.

If you aren't good at Micro, the Canaveral isn't the ship for you.

I never really built them, I just skip to norways.  they are cheaper faster to build and usually more power full, but Ill build them if you guys say they are really good.  :sweatdrop:

norways can raise the hell for ships like destroyers, while the canereval class is very evul against ships of any size

Sensor Blackout really is powerful.  And the Canaveral is a great ship.  Dominus and I have tried using it as a Norway replacement for Risner.  It's got some kinks in that regard, but they perform well.  What makes the ship useful is its a fast ship with a long range,  like a beefed up saber.  But it also includes a light quantum pulse which takes out destroyers quickly.  You can't spam too early in a 1v1, but after you've researched their specials I highly recommend using them.

As to killing the K'Vorts, I feel it has more to do with the fact that that Klingon early game is broken, at least to me.  Their first two major ships are short ranged, and the Canaveral can be microed just like a saber.  The fact that it also has a high system value and can regenerate quickly also adds to its survivability.  Just watch a Canaveral regen its shields sometime.  It does better than 1 point per second, far better than other ships.

They don't fair as strongly against rhienn distruptor upgrades, because Canaverals have a low defense.  A bug or two can take them out of the equation.  And scout cubes and assimilators love their low crew, destroyer status.

As to the special, 25 seconds is pretty long.

Why tone down either the Norway or Canaveral? I thought the Federation's specialty was Special Weapons.
