The guide says it should take about 6 minutes to get the first out.

Using the Decom "rush", you can get a decent sphere out in 4 min 30 seconds....but then you have no base.

lol, gets you an early sphere, but the problem is, without a base it will take all day to rebuild, u better hope your sphere can keep them bottled up for 15 minutes while ur main base miners build up enough res for rebuild lol. game could easily drag on for 30 minutes as your sphere constantly zips in and kills any constructors and miners then leaves and regens lol.

i'd quit during that time tbh, would get kinda boring sitting there while you cant rebuild and your enemy doesnt have the firepower to down your starbase for ages.

Which makes all mining stations and the construction node very very juicy targets while that particular sphere is searching for its own targets.

they will probably be back defending their base lol. eventually u will make them run out of res and can keep popping in and destroying miners, they wont be able to rebuild.

it suffocates them slowly and with as little fun for both players as is possible.

Staying back for defense makes no sense when you have not even a base left.

The only useful thing you can possibly get out of this decom-stuff is the possibility of devastating the whole opponents stuff except for his base at a point where he can't defend against a sphere yet.

they will have a base, 1 sphere with 3 regen modules wont take a base down that fast. it definitely will take ages to kill the starting starbase. the sphere is more likely to just kill both your constructors and any miners i can, while relying on regen to shrug off the starbase. the fear of leaving their base to get sterilised will keep their ships back, constantly trying to keep the sphere at bay long enough to mine some res and make more ships. to be honest i think the sphere could easily regen any damage that early and keep the base without miners. which would drag the death out so long.

the borg base would be rebuilding incredibly slowly as the couple miners u have bring in res slowly.

I'm going to experiment with this sphere rush see if i can come up with a cunning plan, only problem i forsee is against counter rush especially since your base will be gimp and lacking defence... but they might try tackle the sphere... we'll see!

Heh, well some of that stuff is frowned upon, because it's not an intended part of gameplay.  It's an oversight that I believe the devs intend to correct in the Borg redo.  So to quote the Fed president from Star Trek VI, just because we can do a thing, doesn't mean we must do that thing.

Also, as Myles has pointed out, doing things that are unintended tends to not make you any friends, and you kind of want them to play with you the next game, right? ^-^

yeah, decom rushes are boring. most rushes are kinda boring as the rush leaves the rushing player with a weak economy so it takes them time to build up a fleet for the final blow.

Super Duper Decom Rushes suck = don't make you friends = no one plays with you.

    Problem?

I recommend checking out replays with Borg. (makes you kinda wonder what the global win/loss per faction is, eh?)
