meh, its ok but still not the torpedo machine it supposed to be. Imho it still needs an offensive special weapon to better portray its intended role within the fed fleet ^-^, something like:

"Torpedo barrage": can be toggled on/off. while active reduces reload time for torpedo weapons, at expense of phaser fire and mobility.

OR

"Torpedo barrage": for a limited time causes the akira to fire torpedoes in 3 round bursts instead of normal 1. reduces phaser fire and mobility while in effect.

with those i reckon it can truely be the akira it was meant to be B) plus with those handicaps should keep them balanced with the other specials too.

i think the akira should get a nice torpedo attack.
Something like vector-torpdedos or anything else, cause at the moment it is not really a gun ship but it should be one.

I like the idea of Torpedo Assault mode:

I think Admiral Risner's avatar should get this, since Risner gets a boosted attack value for the Akira. That way, Mayson gets "Defensive patterns" because he gets a boosted defence value for the Akira.

I think Risner needs a boost, since I always choose Mayson due to the Excelsior II boost (+4 attack and +4 defence) as well as Quantum Torpedo turrets.

Hmmm.... the Romulans already get a similar thing (hits two enemy ships) when you upgrade (forgot the name) the first type of ship in the most basic yard to torpedo (as opposed to disrupter).

I like the Akira as it is now, honestly, but i will try to get you closer to the flying-torpedo-launcher-feeling with the next set of new features that will be introduced in the 3.x patches  :thumbsup:

actually it IS a flying torpedo launcher ... some have up to 15 (!!!) torpedo tubes  :D

Since we are on the topic of the Akira, can the hardpoints be altered so that if the target is at the side it fires out of a side launcher rather than fire foward and turn?

You can modify your Akira quite easy.

I copied the multi launcher lines from the sovereign into the Akira weapon ODF.

Now it fires three torps when it is on rank 4 and 6 torps on the highest rank.

For this just put:
saveFire = 1
maxShots = 3
minimumShotInterval = 0.5

into the fedW_akiraYr42.odf

and

saveFire = 1
maxShots = 6
minimumShotInterval = 0.7

into fedW_akiraYr52.odf

actually i start to think that the excesior II class should be replaced by the Akira class, because the ExcesiorII ships are very very rare
