Star Trek Armada I - Small Problem

Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

My friend Nick has been planning on letting borrow Star Trek Armada I to install on my laptop and to also play since I have only been able to play the demo for that game (which works fine on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit). Well yesterday I got the game and tried to install it to my laptop, it took over 3 hours to install and then when it was done, some of the files associated with the game read as 0KB. And the game wouldn't play so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, it still wouldn't play and still the files read as 0KB.

So here is what I decided to do:
1) I noticed the disc has the required game files in the Data Fileand theydon't read as 0KB so I've copied and pasted these into my Star Trek Armada I directory and I'm still in the process of doing that and I hope that it will play after because I'm courious about Star Trek Armada I but I don't want to mod it (If I can get it to work, I'll install Star Trek Armada Future Tense to it when it comes out but that would be all).

2) Attached is a screen capture (screen shot) of the error I keep getting when trying to play the game. I beleive that the game should work on my laptop since the demo worked and they require the same System Requirements. Does anyone know how I can get this game to work?

3) This isn't directly related to Star Trek Armada I, but is more related to Star Trek Armada II. Say I like the campaigns in Star Trek Armada I, is there by any chance a way to add them directly to Star Trek Armada II without losing the Armada II Campaigns? If this can be done, it would be in addition to the Fourth Campaign that I'm creating for my Star Trek Armada II mod.

I've heard around that it's almost impossible to get A1 working on Windows Vista and Windows 7. I can't get A1 or A2 to work on my Vista system so I just use windows XP instead. It might be possible to get some of those missing files from people though.

As far as the A1 campaign goes Megadroid and I have been working on porting it to Fleet Ops so people unable to play A1 will have a chance to play the campaign sometime in the future.

I'll see about getting the files that are needed from someone else. Armada II works perfectly fine on Windows Vista, especially if its on a Toshiba Satellite L350 Series. The demo for Armada I even worked so I think it should all work on Vista, you just got to know how the operating system works and your computers specs. There is only one game that isn't working on Windows Vista, its called Incoming (Rage Incoming).

I was talking about regular Star Trek Armada II though not Fleet Ops for adding the campaign from Armada I, I happen to really like the campaign in Armada II, its a very great story and I don't want to lose it in any way or form, if Fleet Ops put in a campaign, I'd like to see the Armada II camapgin being the campaign they choose along with also putting in the Armada I campaign, just like what I met when I metioned it.

The best thing to do in my opinion is to let the Devs transfer over any campaign into Fleet Ops because then tehy can easily release it, because they might be able to get permission to re-release teh campaign but anyone else who does it is under copyright law. They'd have to make their own whole ner campaign from scratch for it to be legal.

Here's my standard "won't install on Vista/7 fix;" Install your preferred virtual machine client software.  Then install preferred compatible OS.  Then install software you want to install but couldn't on Vista/7.  Once installed, copy directory contents to a flash drive, or shared network drive.  Enjoy using said software/game in Vista/7.  I've tried this with countless games and other progs and it works perfectly almost every time.  I think, I had one hiccup playing Emperor of Dune on Windows 7 because it is a multi-cd game.  I fixed it though by combining everything into one disc/directory.

I could try that if at college we were aloud to install programs onto their computers, but we can't, that's why my modding project is even all sent to Megaupload to access it at school.

These are the files that I'm missing:
1) the Splash BMP files
2) the STRLKUP.DLL
3) WonInterface.dll
4) I also believe that I'm missing the ODF files because I can't figure out what folder their supposed to be in.

The pictures are my Armada I Install - with files missing and either having 0KB versions but it is patched to Version 1.2 with the official patch.

The second Picture is from the Data File on the Star Trek Armada CD.

Just checking, but did you run the installer as admin? Could be that if not then UAC is interefering with the install?

STA1 odf files are not included as standard (well there are about 5 or 6 included) but they are to be installed and found in the addon folder (i also believe new sounds are to be added there aswell)

as for the FT mod its not really a matter of when it comes out but if as the team keep disappearing and the creator aint sure wether to continue or not (its been in development for years and hes obssessed with it being 'perfect' before any release also no porting to any other mod or game (not even A2))

I have had STA1 on windows 7 but due to i think to be my graphics card i can not play it (wont even work correctly after i reinstalled XP (messed up graphics)

i have installed and got a1 working fine on vista.

try turning off uac, then uninstalling.

now find the installer file on the disc (probably setup.exe) and run that with win 98 compatibility mode. if it still dont install i cant figure out why. as mine installed perfectly on vista.

u could try copying the whole contents of the data folder from the disc to the install dir and see if the files now register.

1] Make a blank one named SPALSH.bmp I think it is supposed to be 640x480 Resolution.
2] That is a system file I think
3] Could a blank Dll work? If not. Copy the A2 one and see if it satisfies it.
4] In stock A1 all the stuff was built into the damn engine. No odfs come with the install... which is stupid.

Yeah, you have to download the odfs and techtrees seperately(@ AFC).

I wasn't given that option to run the install as an admin. I used the auto-install option. What one is the install program that I can right click and get the install as admin option?

I'm not sure how to turn off the UAC for Windows Vista, I never attempted it before.
I know Armada I will run at least since the Demo for it worked just fine.
When I copied over the files from the disc, some wouldn't copy over but overwrited in the Armada I install, the files that are missing are those files.

Disable User Account Control in Windows Vista

scroll down to method 4, its easiest. with screenies too.

with uac off everything should run with the same access as your user account.

now for the installer, navigate to the armada 1 disk and there should be setup.exe right click > properties > tick run as admin, and compatibility win98

I saved the information so I can try to disable the UAC. I'm not sure though if the disc has its own problem for it was making my computer not respond alot  (Windows Stopped responding alot) plus the game took over 3 hours to install.
