I was using Ferengi engine disabler on stations after noticing some odd bug with it. The bug can be discussed in another post. Here we talk about uner attack messages being generated by observer controlled ships. Quite simply, I forgot about under attack messages since I never pay attention to them, and I didn't even think they would be generated by an observer Ferengi ship using it.
I request that observer ships attacking will not generate any under attack messages, to prevent it from ever distracting players.
Probably also best if engine disabler had no effect if used by an observer, tho I only used it once as a joke (disable a cons ship while its building as it would have no effect, altho the construction finished early) and once as a misclick (tried using on mining, cursor was on miner.)

OR ...
When the players in the game ask you REPEATEDLY to stop fucking around with the nuetrals, you could just STOP doing it. WOW!

Or is that crazy?

no man thats to logical, almost sounds vulcan so can't be good
I never understand why people want to observe other than checking out player tactics....but that would get old for me for like after 1 game

Observing is probably the second best way to improve your game (the best way obviously playing it). Observing allows you to see how different strategies work in reality and you can watch several different strats in action against each other without suffering the distractions of actually playing.
And this does not need fixing... as Boggz suggests, if observing you should not distract the players. Being allowed to observe is a favour granted by the players. If you abuse it then you will find in the future they will not allow it again.

You can use a Ferengi Maurader's engine disabling special to disable the engines of a ship (this is also what allows you to move the ship as an observer, as it travels to the target you have selected for the special). Once disabled, you can use the tractor beam on the ship and affect the outcome of a battle. Really what needs to happen is map makers need to not place Ferengi Pete all over the place. He's taking too much heat from his illegal racket and needs to lay low for a while.

Maybe I should give a basic order of what happened to help show why I did it on stations:
-shot dominion constructor ship, Boggz/Butter get pissed so I stop trying to shoot any ships at all.
-shot some Clint/Megadroid stations and found bug, Boggz and Butter have little interest but I needed to know if they were seeing the bug too.
-shot Butter's stations a bunch.
-accidentally shot dominion miner and Butter/Boggz are pissed again, so I make sure to be more careful to only hit stations.
-shot Boggz station to check if the bug happens on Rom stations too, Boggz/Butter pissed again so I stop shooting anything of theirs, as it seems then that they aren't just pissed when ships are disabled.
-shot most of Clint/Megadroid stations constantly, finding that the bug happens on every station and is different depending on the angle (some angles even make the shot act like normal.)
-battle over, someone reminds me of the under attack messages, and I realize that stations too shouldn't be shot with it.

Will we get actual move commands for observer ships?

observers will not be able to control anything. They are observers after all

Why not just make observer ships be invisible ( transparetn texture ) with no guns at all ?

There are no real "observer ships" by definition. Observers and neutral vessels just happen to be in the same team (team 0). ferengi marauders which task is to pick crew-less vessels from the map happen to be 'neutral' also. I havent realized that the availabe command buttons are more than just a visual glitch, as there is code in stock armada that seemed to prevent, but they seem to have forgot it in some new armada 2 functions (new compared to armada 1). I would have fixed that armada 2 bug a lot sooner if i had realized that
it was never intended to have observer controllable ships in fleet operations (and i guess nor in stock armada 2). observers are just there to observe... not to observe and annoy
