Tractor-Throw?

I just recently watched my constructor doing said thing:
I ordered the constructor tractoring a captured ship. When the constructor was about to use the tractor beam, I issued the order to go the shipyard for both (Marked both + Movement order).

For some reason, the ship without engines overtook the constructor on its destination to the yard ... like it was propelled by the sheer force of my authority :). And there wasn't the bluish tractorbeam from constructor to unit.

It just happened once. Just to let you know ...

Dang, I though this was and idea you had lol. Though it would be cool to use it to repel enemie ships away from your constructors. Throw it into a blackhole or dangerous nebula.

An inverse tractor beam?

Without seeing it, I'd have to say it sounds like the ship got "sucked" into the repair queue (hence the velocity increasing) :)

I threw a freighter at Dom once. Didn't kill a single bug. I was disappointed.

yes, that is correct. when a ship enters a repair queue it doesn't matter if it has engines or not, the shipyard queue defines the speed. it is default armada 2 behavior. take it as an invisible tractor beam from the shipyard, like when the millenium falcon neared that small moon... :P
but why not, i'll set up a low priority todo for just that. when a vessel without engines enters the queue, the shipyard locks a tractor beam on that vessel. (just a visual change)

Actually i was just going to suggest that Doca, but not just a visual change, i find that it can sometimes be difficult to get the engine disabled ship to get repaired, so why not have a medium range tractor beam from the star yard, maybe make it an upgrade to the yard, that way, all you have to do is tow your ship to the destination, and then lock on with the yard tractor, and boom, the ship is pulled in and repaired.

ah, yes, good idea

"so why not have a medium range tractor beam from the star yard,"

It was in fact rather far away from the yard. If I recall it correctly, the ship remained there after the tractor-throw and wasn't pulled into the yard. Just seemed like a minor glitch to me :)

@ Necrorubi, i think you misunderstand me, im saying lets put a tractor on the yards, so that the construct can pull the ship to the yard, and then you can press the tractor button on the yard, and tractor the ship in, would solve alot of those types of issues i think
