Sound Related Bug

After some head scratches and hours of trying to figure out what was going on, I discovered that having more then 16 races in FO causes the game to crash when you select units. The crash log then reports that the error was related to sound. Eventually I switched race17 to an earlier race slot in races.odf  and they suddenly worked fine, but the earlier race that replaced 17 suddenly stopped working. My conclusion is that any race that shows up after race16 in races.odf will cause the game to crash when selecting their units.

When I got this problem, selecting AI controlled ships of that race seemed to work. It's something from A2 rather than FO, I think (that's where I got it).

Yeah fortunately the races still work if they are under AI control, and fortunately these are NPC races that the player will never get to control too if the bug is never resolved  :sweatdrop:

Bug Report attached. Hopefully this yields some good results. The report mentions GameEvent.mTriggerRaceSound so I'm certain it has something to do with sounds or is related to events.dat perhaps.

I believe I might have had the exact same error.  i was forced to make all my ships belong to the federation or something inorder to get rid of the error.  Nothing i did would get rid of the race sound trigger error.  It would be great if it was a fixable error with the game, versus sometjing I did and I couldn't find. :whistling:

Here is my error report.  I actually have sent one to doca, but never recieved a responce. :sweatdrop:  prally lost in a sea of bug reports. :whistling:

sorry about that. but yes, shit happens. :P

there seems to be a hardcoded limit on the gameevent sounds where 16 as a limit comes into play. i will try to analyze if this can be fixed/patched to support more sounds and report back. thanks for your reports

edit: yes, events are limited to 16 different race sound sets (as you previously correctly assumed). a fix should be possible

i have completed the fix. was kinda tricky to implement and more work than i expected. when everything goes well (no crashes), the fix will be included with the next version.
