Hey guys,

Ever since version 3.2.3, the sound sometimes randomly cuts out and stays out. It does it a lot at the menu, but will happen anywhere. All other system audio stays operational. I've fiddled with all the sound options, no dice. If I save and reload, it works for a while longer and then stops again.

Anyone seen this issue?

Nobody else? that's strange...

I get no errors or command output, and the computer's sound manager even records an open audio connection to the program, but no audio is heard. I noticed that the sound manager only records programs that are actively playing audio, so it seems that the computer can hear the audio just fine...

EDIT : Could it be the new OGG files somehow?

i require some more info to be able to help you, your description is kind of vague :)
so, does it cut out from one sec to another or do the sound slowly fade away?
at which stage of the game does this happen? only in menu, during game?
what can you tell me about your hardware, especially what sound card and speaker configuration do you use. stereo, 5.1, headset, digital or analogue output...?
what OS are you using?
do you have more than one sound card/audio device installed?
do you use any other audio programs while playing fleet operations? music players, teamspeak...?
do you have the fleet operations multimedia pack installed?
anything else that could be relevant? :)

Whoa, I had forgotten about this thread. The Audio still don't work right, and I kinda quit playing.

Here is what I can give you :

The sound will be playing, and then it goes "mute"
The sound will cut out randomly, but usually before I ever leave the main menu
I use a regular 2.1 setup on an integrated sound card
No other audio programs are used when FO is running

The sound only cuts out in FO. If any other sound programs are left running (In or out of Wine), they continue playing normally. PASS (Pulse Audio Sound System) shows the FO program as having an active audio connection to the sink, but shows no volume activity on the VU (Normal readouts when the audio IS working).

The problem was only recorded as happening on 3.2.3 and later. Before that, the program ran beautifully. No other problems with FO are detected.

System Info :

Core I7 quad W/ hyperthreading @ 3.06GHz
6GB PC1600 DDR3 mem
2TB SATA3 drive
Nvidia Geforce GT240 Superclocked

SOUNDCARD : Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller (integrated)
SOUNDCARD : nVidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller (HDMI on Vid Card) (not used)
SOUNDSYSTEM : PulseAudio with sink and eq

OS : Ubuntu Linux 11.04 with WINE layer version 1.2.3

FO MultiMedia Pack 3 installed

Oh, and

THANKS DOCA!!!

hm, usually when it works in windows and doesn't in wine, it's a wine issue :P i can't give full support for wine, however you could try the following:
in 3.2.3 i have upgraded to a newer fmod (sound engine) version to fix problems with other soundcards. go to fmod - interactive audio middleware. you could try to download a newer version of the fmod sdk there, and replace the fmod dll file we use in fleet operations with a newer one from the sdk. we currently have the 4.34.04 in fleet operations. if that doesn't work, you could also try to download an OLDER sdk version from their site. i think we used 4.32 before the 3.2.3 patch. it'd be of course great if the newer version works, then i'll provide the newer dll with the next patch.
please report back, if you got any luck with that :)

I tried the new and the old ones and they still dont work. I am not sure what it could be.

It seems to almost always cut out at the exact same place in the menu song, when the trumpet starts playing. Could the change from MP3 to OGG format audio cause a problem?

i can confirm i have had this problem too.  i could never figure out what it was, and therefore could not fully report on it.  i did post a bug report a long while ago.

Happened to me for the first time last night.  Sound just randomly cut.  There was a lot going on in the game at the time and the borg were mid-sentence saying one of their "you're biological and technilogical....." then it cut.

Win7 Ultimate x64 (SP1)
Gigabyte ga-ma790xt-ud4p stock audio.  Realtek ALC889A codec but device manager is showing "High Definition Audio Device"
8GB 1066 OCZ

This only occurred once so far, for me, and it was vs AI.  If you need any more info, just ask.

YAY I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THESE PROBLEMS!!!!!  :D :
I'm running Win7 64-bit Premium. Whenever I play, the sound starts to sound all garbled, like it's the wrong bitrate.

EDIT: I've done some testing, and after fiddling with the settings of my computer's sound and running fleet operations alongside several other programs I run while playing (teamspeak, tunngle, firefox, etc.), I've found that teamspeak and flops don't like each other at all.

any mods in use when that happens?

No mods in use for me! I still ain't got the change to drive a teutenberg (spelling?) yet!

I'm strictly stock for FO.

On a sidenote, running teamspeak with anything else makes the audio get all garbled. I guess it's a problem on my end  :whistling:
