Hey guys
I found this mod by accident ^^
And I am rly happy about it.
But atm there is one nasty thing I cant get rid off, sometimes the screen freezes but the game is going on.
If I alt tab out of the game and return, it's working again but only for a few secs.
Also you can "esc" into the options and return then again... same effect.
Yes I am using Vista :/
I installed the game, naturally I got the "Borg.wav" issue.
I just ended the "QDecoder" process... finished the installation,
manually added all sound files that are missing in comparison to the original install. Exept the music folder, Additonally I patched the game and added the music expansion.
Works fine ... for me however sometimes that screen freezing thingy happens to me and the game couldn't played flawlessly until I restarted it ...
Someone got an idea ^^ ?
Or are still files missing?
But I cant belive that, cause the decoder only concerns about music and sound files...

hey, welcome to the forums
you should try to install fleet operations on a xp machine and then copy all files to your vista computer. usually alt-tab switching should work fine, it may be related to the sound files missing. stock sound files do not include all required by fleet operations

Hi !
I also just installed 'FO 3 Pre', 'Patch 1' and 'Vista launcher' on vista using the install-on-xp-copy-to-vista method, and i am getting the same error as Kaesemuffin.
Right after starting a instant action game, my screen freezes, but the game keeps on going on
(i can hear that, cuz the buttons still make the mouseover sound, when i hover over them.)
Also the going to options menu and then going back to game works for me... but only for few sec. until the game freezes just again.
...any suggestions what i could do to get a non-freezing game ?
cheers

Ok... i think i just found the solution myself !
I didn't read the install instructions Here! properly !
It says "Delete FleetOps.map from your Fleet Operations directory", but i didn't do that !
...after deleting that file, everything seems to work fine.
cheers

no, these files are not related to the release build of fleet operations. you are looking at some debugging data there. you have to install fleet operations 3 pr ontop of windows xp to then copy all files to your windows vista machine. you can also do that by installing it within a virtual xp machine. i am sorry that this bug exists, in v3 final that issue will be fixed

The bug is back....
i just went for playing some vanilla A II and it did the same as in fleet ops before... it froze.
..so i think this is a vista armada II problem and not just fleet ops !
anyhow... i managed getting it to run by sacrificing my high screen res and going down on 1024x786
cheers

or just another temporary solution...could of course be a problem related to your graphic drivers

hi,
i had the same problem, it occurred in both the "clean" Armada II and on Fleet Operations, first I thought it is a problem with my Vista Graphic Card Drivers, because I have a 7200 Go, so I need to use modded Drivers, I tried 5 different version and always the same problem, screen freezes, but the game still goes on.
After that I just tried to enable/disable some graphical features on Armada II. When I disabled the "Asynchronous Curser" everything was fine. The screen did not freeze anymore and I could play Armada II and Fleet Operations.
That helped out, maybe you have the same problem, just give it a try,

Athos
PS: Sorry for my bad English. I could explain it in German if needed.

Remember that after even after everyone applies the .map fix for Vista, DO NOT put the FO/startrek folder in your program files. Instead leave it under My Documents so that UAC does not interfere.
This should take care of any freezing problems (hopefully)

* Version 3 (PR) with Patch and Vista Loader Fix
* Game randomly freezes when playing, escaping to the menu and returning to game makes it work again.
I have tried the following to resolve the problem (not in order):
Update graphics drivers to the latest forceware.
Changed colour scheme of vista to "basic"
Attempted giving Fleet Ops a "very high" process priority
Attempted running Fleet Ops in many different resolutions, as high as 1200 and as low as 800.
Attempted running Fleet Ops in Compatibility Mode
Attempted turning of a-sync cursour
Tried running at the lowest possible graphics quality
Tried two different graphics cards!
Tried closing down all back ground processes
Tried installing Fleet Ops on an oollllddd XP Machine and copying the files over - no joy.
My syetsm specs are:
AMD 64 X2 4800+
2gb DDR2 Ram PC6400
Nvidia Geforce 7300gs 512mb & Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 512mb (Both PCI Xpress)
Running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit Edition.
I am unable to resolve the problem using any of these steps - i would like to get it working because, to be frank,. the random freezing is stopping me from kicking my co-hosts (kinneas) ass in multiplayer.

Hey!
I think i fixed it. I tried a bunch of different settings just now and it seemed to be stable - not sure if it was any one, or the whole combination, that fixed it.
Heres what i did:
Windows XP SP2 Compatibility
Run as Administrator
Disable Visual Themes
Disable Desktop Composition
Disable Display Scaliing on High DPI Settings
Then in game i:
Run graphics at 1024x768x32
Run graphics at medium detail
Turned off A-Sync Cursor
Turned off Cinematic Window
Changed sound to 16 Channels instead of 32 and enable hardware acceleration
Seems to run smoothly now - i built up 100 ships and sent them to attack the enemy and it didnt freeze once, so, works for me!
