Me and my friends are playing FO over LAN. Most of my friends play Klingon or Romulan, so guess the problem: Is there any way to remove or simplify the cloaking effect so that it doesn't half our framrates.
Just tell me which file i have to modify or what i have to do.
Please hurry because the LAN is at full impulse!

The cloaking lag is a problem with the engine, the devs will fix it someday. They will most certainly not remove the effect as it is what we have seen in every portrayal of cloaking in Star Trek.

So atm we just have to live with it? Isn't there anything I can do about, to make the game less lagging for me and my friends?

Lower your res.

You can try messing with the graphics settings to minimize it but cloak will probably always have an impact on performance.

It could be that maybe you should make sure you got the latest DirX. Some older ones may not handle the graphics properly. Either that, or maybe you just need to check all the following:
- All players have a decent Grpx card
- All player computers are fairly higher than the minimal req
- Your network is not a maze of routers (sometimes too many routers between computers can cause problems
- No ridiculously long network wires (the signal may fade if too long cords are present)
- No damaged cords are used in the network
- If you have wireless, it would be good to make sure no one is at the peak of their range, sometimes it can be a problem
- Make sure all drivers are updated
- Make sure that you avoid unnecessary parallel programs and services running

Alright thx so far! I'm going to try all of your tips, eexcept the one with th gfx cards because everyone here got a 8800GT/GTS/GTX or even better. Also the LAN cable isnt the problem because we are sitting right next to each other with one switch.

Other than lowering the graphics load, I'm not sure there's much you can do until Doca can recode that bit of the engine. As far as I remember, the software renderer is the problem... which is really outdated technology  :sweatdrop:
