Hello people,

After searching the forums I did not find what I was searching for...
Well so I have to make a new topic.

Here is my problem:
I was making a new map and was setting my start points.
It should be a map for 8 player - but the 5th start point is allways placed in the middle of the map.
All other points are where they should be.

Things I tryed to get it solved:
I have checked several times for correct writting the points name (Camera_5)
I reloaded the map several times and restartet the game more than one time.
I restarted my PC, too. But the problem still is there.

Maybe someone can help me here.
Hopefully ~ Minrok

welcome to the forums minrok

there is a page in the guide which gives some help on map editing:
Map Editing - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations

maybe the solution is in there.

Hope you enjoy your time here,

see you on tunngle

Hi Myles,

I found that guide before - because of it, I was able to create my own maps in STFO - but it doesn't help me with my problem I have here. 9.6

It is funny - I tryed some thing other now:
1. I deleted ALL Path-Points I found on my map. Than I saved the map and placed them again. The result is allmost the same... the 5th point is diplayed in the middle of the map.
2. I deleted the complete map (BMP, BZN TXT) after loading it in the editor and save it again. - The 5th point is still in the middle of the map.

What the hell I am doing wrong?! Oo

Well if I did not get that fixed... I have to the whole map again... hrm...

And when you tried moving the 5th point? Did it still jump back to center? If you upload the map here, some of us can take a look at it

I tried that too. It doesn't have any effect at all...

Ok, here is the map. I'm working on it, to get it better balanced - so please don't wonder over it by now ^^'

that map looks like a map where u are locked inside your cells by asteroids and the only way out is via wormholes. kinda like nirvana 2.

in which case there are a couple fundamental problems (for multiplayer):

Those sorts of maps are turtle tech races. ie everybody can put a bunch of turrets at their wormhole and turtle, while they tech up to super duper fleets of sovvies etc

Wormholes are broke, they cause [abbr=Out of Sync]OoS[/abbr] during online play
such a map would rarely get played online, but single player they can be entertaining i guess.

Well, seems that I get a crash when saving your map, but if you try and select that middle start point, it turns out it doesn't actually exist.

- Myles: This Map was indeed planed for turtle. It was thought to play 4vs4.

- Dominus_Noctis: If I understand that right, then my version of STFO (3.1.0) saved this map with an error in it? Anyway - How did I get that problem away?

**beside - I tryed to update to 3.1.4, but then I can't start a game. So I go back to 3.1.0.

I'm not certain - there are some issues with the map editor and certain custom maps in 3.1.4 . A fix will be released in due time I am sure. For now though it seems that there are the correct number and placement of starting positions, just it displays incorrectly

ok then, it sounds like your map is perfect for what it is intended to be. looks more fun than nirvana 2

you should start a bug thread about not being able to start a 3.1.4 game.

if u can upgrade you should as 3.1.4 is great.

- Dominus_Noctis: That would explain, why I can do what I want and it don't seems to work... I can not correct something that is not wrong. XD

Thank you for helping out. :)
I hope to get good enough with creating maps that people cloud have fun with them online :)

- Myles: I already sent a bug report via email. ^^

DOCa has just let me know that the map editor and map selection crashes come from custom maps with empty map descriptions (fixed for 3.1.5). In the meantime though these can be fixed using the command line parameters:

armada2.exe /edit "my map.bzn"

Hope that helps  :sweatdrop:
