Check any odf's you edited recently, make sure all " sysmbols are where they belong.

I just installed the 3.0.7 patch and I'm having the same issue. I have not edited any .odf files. Should I uninstall the patch and go back to 3.0.6 and see if I have the same issues?

Specs?
If you have a small amount of RAM you can increase your dedicated page file to resolve this issue. It's in the advanced tab of the system properties, assuming you are running windows.

I'm running 2 GBs of RAM on Win7x64 system. My processor is a Dual Core @ 2GHz and my video card is a nVidia GeForce 8400 GS. I'll try to increase my page file and see if that helps and thanks, Happy Thanksgiving.

I set my swap file much larger and carried on the game much, much longer than last time, but when my fleet rolled up on the Klingon base the game crashed and I got the swap file error again. Guess I can set my swap file just a bit larger and save frequently. I'm having a ton of fun playing.

iv seen this before, 2Gb of ram will cause slowdowns on a 64bit OS, 64bit is designed for 4gb+ and hence uses more memory (lots more). either use a 32bit OS or put in more ram.

ehem, I had 250MB ram for about ALL of last year, and Fo just ran a little slow. it has nothing to so with the out of memory error.

Usually a complete uninstall/reinstall does the trick

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just a quick line between games to fill you all in. I've tried re-installing, performing a clean boot through msconfig, increasing swap file size, and running the program as an admin, but nothing stops the swap file crash for me. I'm a big advocate of saving games so it doesn't hurt me too much, but it would be nice not to worry about it.

I hasten to reiterate that 99.9% of the time this is caused by a missing " somewhere. Don't go wasting your money on more hardware or anything that isn't actually going to solve the issue!
(That is, unless you *want* more RAM....
)
You need to uninstall the game using the uninstaller, then navigate to where your FO directory previously was - usually ".../Activision/Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations". This shouldn't actually be there - what I suspect has happened is that there is something there that isn't being removed by the uninstaller.
If the FO folder is in .../Activision/ then delete it and restart before re-installing again.
If there isn't anything there then the uninstaller has had no problems, so all I can recommend is to re-download everything and try again. Good luck!

heres a question, How old is the saved game? if it is older than this patch, then I don't think it will workat all.

This is the second piece of hardware advice I've seen you give. Last time it was akin to, "You have an old single-core CPU so go buy a new one"". Now this advice is, "You need more than 2gigs of RAM for a 64-Bit OS, so go buy more RAM".
Whilst I'm sure your advice is laced with nothing but the best of intentions, none of it is particularly practical.
64-Bit Windows is designed to work with a minimum of 2GBs of RAM. That's WORK, not "load up your desktop and not allow you to do anything". Typically this has been the case in the past I grant you. However, I am running Windows7 64-Bit with 2gigs of RAM. After boot up, Win7 uses about 500-600MB of RAM. If a game is then run with no other unnecessary programs, then there should be plenty of RAM available for the game to use.
So far the problems are stuttering in-game and virtual memory messages. Both of these issues have been encountered by people playing FO on non-64bit systems, and systems with more than one CPU in them. So neither can be definitively chalked up to what you're saying are the problems. Telling people to spend more money has the potential to waste it, even if they would probably benefit from having more RAM or a better CPU.
I can't say I have a solution either, but I would recommend ensuring the graphics drivers are up-to-date, that no unnecessary programs, services or processes are running in the background and that the virtual memory settings should be further tinkered with. I admit that it might not work, but at least if it doesn't, several hundred dollars won't have been thrown down the toilet.

I have a WinXP 32 bit OS on a C2D Processor with 2GB of ram. I was running Star Trek Armada II just fine until I installed the patch. Now I am getting the swap file message. I increased it to 3-6GB from 2-4 and I have run a disk check and made sure I am not fragmented. Still the same error. It has to be in the files of the patch, but where?

that's odd fo cant consume anywhere near 2gb. maybe u have many programs running in background?
