the other day it occured to me that there used to be more maps than are currently in my map list. so i opened my older FO folder to find a BZN folder and sure enought there are some there that didn't make the transition. so, me being me, i selected all, copied, opened the NEW BNZ for 3.0.6? 7? whatever we are playing now. pasted, hit NO for a while. and lole and behold, more maps.
sweet
then i tried some of the old 2 player ones, only to find that the asteriod fields are visibly there to the eye, but not as far as the game is concerned. Ships pass right through it, you can build in and on it.
Did every ship get Phasing technology all the sudden?
Did John Locke.. i mean Admiral Presman's little experiment finally pay off?
is this one of those, you need to go into some file, change a one to a zero, and life is good?
it was a bunch of different maps, (maybe WHY they didn't make the transfer in the first place)
The Journey, un(guarded?) (protected?), and at least one more.
If anyone out there can school me, that would be awesome

This is normal... they made it to where you have to manually put in blocking triggers.

The blocking system was (relatively) recently redone... so that to become impassible you need to put down "blocking triggers" to make nebulae and asteroid belts impassible. Otherwise everything is just an image. Heck, you can even make empty space blocked by doing that
There is a good description of how to use blocking triggers etc in the guide available from the downloads section... as well as some explanations on how to do this in the map making section of the forum.
EDIT: guess I was too slow

To get into map editor, simply load up the map and hit ctrl E
From the guide:
"Asteroid fields will not block ships from moving through them. The visual layer and the blocking layer have been separated in Fleet Operations. First you should place the visual layer using the map objects menu (F1). After that you can place the blocking triggers (F10 → F2 → F1). Blocking triggers should be placed as an unbreakable chain in the asteroid field. You can add blocking triggers at any time, if you prefer not to place them right after the visual layer."
Hope that helps some, and don't be afraid to ask for assistance
EDIT: error, not F12, F10 in fact

well, i took some rearanging to get the intraweb going at home. i re read your directions. and perhapse i need to explain my situation a little gooder.
i have the map up in Editor, i see the white letters in the upper left corner, i can click on objects and that will bring up some white menu in the corner full of lots of interesting data (that tells me nothing)
i hit various F keys and that gets me into sub menues but i dont know how to get out of them or to do anything with them.
maybe it is time to come clean, the fact that i can turn this computer on in the first place is a good days work here. I'm not what you would call "computer savy"
for as much trek as i know about, i know almost nothing about real world computers.
is there some kinda super idiots guide to map editing?
i dont seem to have a F12 in what ever menu i end up in. so ANY and ALL hand holding would be HUGELY helpful

To get out of a sub menu, simpy hit tab
Clicking with the mouse will lay down whatever item was selected of course.... to get to blocking the numbers in the correct order you need to hit are written in the guide on page 189

Nope, you just have to hit F10 to get the non player stuff... and then F2 → F1 I think.
The Asteroids aren't the triggers
EDIT: made a typo in the guide. Will be corrected next version
