Map display settings

Ok I know I am going sound pretty stupid asking this question but what settings should the map be set to so that ingame the map does not show up? I only want to see where my ships are and their sensor range....right now no matter what i use the entire minimap is shown.....thanks in advance.

See i thought that if Shroud is on and Fog is on then in game the mini map should only show what i have explored and the rest should be covered...but like i said whatever settings i use its always the same....I do set both of them to be on....still does not work

You need to set your graphics detail all the way to high to see the fog of war.  Personally, I like not seeing the big splotches of black on my minimap.

yes, setting graphic details to maximum should work
